Long day

Posted by All Done on March 13, 2004, at 23:47:13

My husband, son, and I were in a car accident today. Everyone is okay, but we were rear ended by a 17-year old in his mom's car on his way to a dance with his 16-year old date. Long story kind of short, my husband was taken in one ambulance to the hospital and my son and I were in another ambulance completing paperwork. For some reason, they brought the two teenagers into the ambulance we were in. The boy looked really upset and wouldn't even look at me. He seemed very nervous. I wanted to tell him everything would be okay. I don't know why I didn't. The paramedic called his mom and she must have been asking if anyone was hurt because my son was crying in the background. The paramedic wouldn't tell her stating something about patient confidentiality. Yet right in front of me, he proceeded to ask the boy if he was on any medications. He answered Risperdal and Wellbutrin. What if his date didn't know? I certainly didn't need to know. I thought that was so wrong of the paramedic and I really should have said something when I left the ambulance. I so hope he was able to go on to the dance and have a good time.

My husband was checked out and had a few x-rays and is home and doing fine aside from a sore back.

It was just an all around bad day for my son who fell earlier and got his first bloody nose.

For me, today is my normal therapy day, but my T had to reschedule, so I didn't see him. I guess that set the tone for the day :(.

Don't mean to gripe, it was just a really long day. Thanks for listening.

Oh, All Done, you sound like you could use a hug. And maybe a good cry, or at least a good sleep in your own safe bed.

((((All Done))))

I'm so glad that no one was badly hurt. But how traumatic for you all, anyway!

It's really sweet of you to think of comforting the teenager. It sounds like you had a lot of empathy for him, even though the whole thing was his fault. I'm sure he had a really long, bad day as well.

I hope you and your family are able to take it easy tomorrow, and take good care of yourselves.

Thank you so much, pegasus! I didn't even realize how much I needed that hug until you gave it to me :).

We are absolutely going to take care of ourselves tomorrow. We cleaned our slate of previous plans and we're just going to hang out. IMO, days like that are the best anyway.

Thanks for your concern,
All Done

Pegasus expressed my thoughts so nicely, but I'll include my own hug (can never have too many of those)

Thank you, fayeroe and falls (nm)

I'm so glad no one was seriously hurt!!

But you're right about the invasive questions. I'm sure that must have violated some sort of privacy regulation. You'd think they could have handled that better.

The good think about days like that is that they do end.

It did end and yesterday was better. A little sore for everyone but better.

Thanks!
