Do you get anything out of summer?

Posted by Fallen4MyT on May 10, 2004, at 19:40:40

I do...I LOVE summer...not heatwaves but summer sun and warmth...a tan to swim under the sun..late night walks and sitting in the park with my dog, picnics, cookouts...sitting on my deck at night to a nice breeze listening to frogs...planting flowers and pulling weeds so much I find it is fun and I do so much more than in winter..I hate winter. Its endless what I can find to do in summer even INSIDE..I do suffer SAD but all in all....summer rocks :) ANYONE else see the positive side of summer and take part in it?

Sorry, I can't say that I do. I have inverse SAD. I get sad in the summer. But I live in Phoenix. It's too darn hot to be outside in the day time. So we got out at night when it cools down. I even get happy on rainy days here. Isn't that strange?

If you lived in Seattle, I'd say it was a very adaptive response. Seeing as you live in the desert, no. It's not strange.

Lol no that doesn't sound odd to me as your weather is like a mega heat wave to me up here...I know when we are in the 90's for more than one day I wanna weep and stay in...and like you said look to do stuff at night..Our 90's can FEEL like the 100's there cause of humidity..so I do understand I mean like say 70-85 degrees max weather

Fallen,
I'm the same way. It was in the mid 80's this past weekend. I was working in my yard and it was too hot! My in-laws keep moving further and further south. How can they stand it? Oh yeah. They are the ones who keep the heat on at about 74-76 degrees. When it is in the 50's outside! Ugh. I'm a northern girl. I like it cooler. And humidity! Forget it. Staying inside in the AC when it gets that bad.

I also have to stay indoors during summer time. But right now is perfect! I love sitting by an open window while reading a book and feeling the soft breeze. Spring and Fall are the best to me.
I also enjoy a good thunderstorm or even a light rain. There's something about rain that is so soothing. In a thunderstorm I feel so cozy and protected in my bed. I love to sleep to the sound of rain.

Hot as blazes here (Texas), but it is hurricane season. About the only excitement I get these days.

I get groggy and sluggish in the summer and don't wake up till fall.

I do like summer clothes though.

Lol GG, I too hate it too hot even at my T's office today they had the window just open a crack...I was sweating OMG I died....and it was humid as hades out....like turn the A/C on...I should mention I am a fitness freak and can run or kickbox for an hour and not break a sweat much of the time so it was stuffy....
IF the lakes were open near by it would have been OK..this warm but yes 85 too hot....unless on a beach..in the lake and I LOVE to do that...I hate wasps too..

I don't really hate heat, but I don't go running around in the sun when its 100% either. But I would much rather have it hot than cold any day. I hate the cold!
I've gone to Six Flags in 100° plus weather before, but as long as you drink lots of water and ride the water rides alot, it okay. And going to the lake is okay too. As long as you can cool your body down periodically, its not so bad. But on just your average TX summer day, you mostly just go straight from your air conditioned house, to your air conditioned car, to another air conditioned place. And if your air conditioner dies in your car, man, it sucks to be you. I know from experience.

Heat makes me sick. It can trigger my CFS. I like the long days, though. I've always wanted to go to the far north for the summer solstice.

I'm going to the opposite extreme, though--I'm trading the heat and humidity of DC summers for no summers at all. I'm about to rent a house in one of the foggier parts of San Francisco. Summer is when it's foggiest. ("Fog" here is often a dense, damp overcast.) I'm worried that the lack of light will exacerbate my depression, even though I don't have SAD. Am I letting my anxieties get to me? When I lived here before I was less depressed, and lived in a sunnier part of town. But there just aren't that many houses for rent here that meet our criteria.

(Yes, I'm in SF now, which is why I haven't been posting. Don't have too much privacy. My daughter is trading a long-promised trip to Victoria's Secret for... a nap. She complained of a headache.)

The weather here is beautiful. Sunny, about 70, breezy, clean, and crisp. Spring and fall are the best times of year. It rains in winter, and in summer it's windy, cold, and foggy.

I sure know what you mean about air in the car.
Several years ago I had the air break in my car. I was determined not to spend one more penny on that pile of trash. Sweated through the summer, cursing the god-of-lemons. About two weeks into the cool
weather (late October) the compressor completely froze, which made the car not go either. I ended up having to spend 1500 to get the air fixed after all, when I didn't need it any more. The car was gone by Thanksgiving.

I've lived in this area all my life, and haven't adjusted to the heat yet. But the winters are great - I get frisky in cool weather.

Where I live we get every kind of weather and sometimes all on the same day!! We can have unbearable heat then snow....I have always liked storms except when we get caught out on the river.
I was once in the canoe when a down draft of wind hit our boat and pressed the canoe down into the water (we were within an inch of taking on water)...all the old dead yellow cattail foliage around us got sucked up into the air around us and then came spinning and dancing down around us. It was so exhilerating and yet we could have ended up in the water.
What do I love:
1. the birds
2. being in the canoe
3. biking everywhere
4. sleeping with the window open
5. the sweet smells of the blossoms
6. flowers, the green leaves and grass
7. the sweet promise of the spring

What do I hate:
1. wind that causes white caps on our river
2. ticks, mosquitos, black flies, no-see-ums, green heads
3. looking bad in summer clothes
4. poison Ivy
5. the heat...every kind...I'm already hot
6. Noise pollution goes sky high with: people yelling on the street at night, motorcycles, the smaller street bikes, the over sized trucks, ATV's, motor boats, jet ski...
7. the pollution goes up

my favorite season is winter...I love the feeling of going inside myself, I love the cold, and snow. Everything gets so much quieter. Since the creation of snowmobiles the forest is now way too loud. We used to walk on paths and now the snowmobiles scream past us and leave a trail of pollution for us to breath.

Then you should move to San Francisco. Foggy, rainy, grey, cool--in more ways than one.

I've got my fingers crossed. I'm worried that the people renting out the house we want won't like our credit report.
