Mattie was a 13 year old child prodigy...in poetry. He died yesterday with a rare neuromuscular disease called dysautonomic mitochondrial myopathy. This kid lived through hell but published several poetry books that sold in the millions. You can google his name and read much about him if you're interested.
FOR OUR WORLD
We need to stop.
Just stop.
Stop for a moment…
Before anybody
Says or does anything
That may hurt anyone else.
We need to be silent.
Just silent.
Silent for a moment…
Before we forever lose
The blessing of songs
That grow in our hearts.
We need to notice.
Just notice.
Notice for a moment…
Before the future slips away
Into ashes and dust of humility.
Stop, be silent, and notice…
In so many ways, we are the same.
Our differences are unique treasures.
We have, we are, a mosaic of gifts
To nurture, to offer, to accept.
We need to be.
Just be.
Be for a moment…
Kind and gentle, innocent and trusting,
Like children and lambs,
Never judging or vengeful
Like the judging and vengeful.
And now, let us pray,
Differently, yet together,
Before there is no earth, no life,
No chance for peace.

Jai, Thanks...I hope people read it. It's pretty amazing coming from a child.
Jimmy Carter was a fan of Matties' work. I guess he had lots of other fans too.Phil

I heard about this yesterday.. I'd not heard of Mattie before, but how utterly heart breaking for his family having lost his siblings already.
He seems like he was an amazing kid and is sure to be a good angel.

He was remarkable. His poetry was always way too amazing for as young as he was.
I think he was three years old and he wrote the most remarkable poem.
I was deeply saddened but I understand that he couldn't keep living in the kind of pain he would experience.
He had been close to death repeatedly.
His mother has seen the deaths of all her children.
She has the disease as well.
Mattie was advanced.
I think he was a very old soul in a young body. He came to encourage us to be peaceful.
His whole life was about peace and the acceptance of differences....
I miss him being on the earth....
I love you Mattie.
