I had a headache yesterday. Woke up with it today and I need to get rid of it ASAP. Any thoughts?
It's on one side of my head behind my eye and down the back of my neck. For some reason, I seem to be getting these a lot lately.
I tried Execedrin Migraine last night and a nasal decongestant this morning thinking it could be triggered by allergies. Didn't work. Taking a nap is not an option.
Any thoughts?

could it be caffeine related? Have you given up caffeine?

If it happens often, you ought to see a doctor who has some familiarity with headaches. My primary care physician just offered barbituates for the headaches, but my headache specialist gave me triptans (Frova) and I swear it's the best thing since air conditioning (or maybe klonopin). It's not instant relief or anything, but within a relatively short period of time the pain is gone. And I don't get the multiple day headaches that I used to get. Unfortunately, I've heard you can't take triptans if you're on certain antidepressants.
Has the weather been thundery where you are? I have had a bit of trouble with the summer thunderstorms and barometric pressure.

There are several acupressure points that work really well for headaches.
The best one to do for yourself is in your hand. (You aren't pregnant, right? DON'T do this if you are. It is also a labor point!) Take your primary hand (it will be the strongest) and place your thumb over the "v" on your other hand, between the thumb and the index finger. You should be able to feel the base of the bones on the back of the hand, sort of near the wrist. Firmly hold this spot putting pressure on the v with your strong thumb. I curl my other fingers around under the hand and add pressure to the fatty part of the thumb. Hold this for 5 minutes (it should hurt but not been really painful)let go for 5 minutes and hold it again. It works well for headaches and toothaches.
The other pressure points are on the base of the neck on either side. Have someone put gentle pressure on both sides at at the same time while your chin touches your chest. Not rubbing. Gentle consistent pressure.
It really does help. There is another pressure point at the base of the shin and many on the feet.
good luck

Also, if you do some yoga positions that involve inversion (that is, making your head lower than the rest of your body), it really does help relieve the pain.
I've had headaches daily for my entire life. Have you been evaluated for migraines?

What works for me is: 4 Ibuprofen and a cup of coffee. Caffeine shrinks the blood vessels in your brain (or some scientific thing like that). It really helps.
I have headaches all the time too. I learned that hand pressure point thing in high school, and it *really* works. It feels as if all the pressure and pain just drains out of your head. I wasn't aware though that if you did it for 5 minutes the headache would go away. I thought it was a temporary reprieve that worked only while putting on the pressure. I'll have to try that.
These days my headaches seem to be caused by stress and clenching my jaw. I've tried taking Xanax to try to prevent them, but it doesn't. I take so much Ibuprofen everyday that I'm sure to become some sort of statistic for the bad things it can do to you. When I was in my teens, my period would cause such pain that it made me throw up for two days straight. That's when I discovered 8 Ibuprofen dulled it a bit. I would sometimes take twenty or more in a day. But I'm babbling now (no pun intended) so I'll stop.
This is the end of the thread.
