1. My husband can be an unbelievably caring, compassionate man who knows when and how he needs to be strong for me. I love him so much my heart aches.
2. I get to spend all sorts of time with my wonderful son. I will read story upon story. We will go to the park. I'll take him to the zoo. We will spend more time at the childrens' museum. I will bring him to visit all of the relatives that we usually can't visit as much as we'd like. Added bonus, it's summer and we can swim a lot. Hmm, I love him so much my heart aches.
3. I no longer have to dread going into the office each day to work for someone who wanted me to manage "my" staff but consistantly reminded everyone that "we do not work in a democracy".
4. I will find a better place to work.
5. My neighbor is moving 2 1/2 hours away, but now we will be able to go visit her without me having to take a vacation day from work.
6. I got an absolutely lovely post from kk earlier today and it makes me smile everytime I read it.
7. I already have plans to make a yummy lasagna for dinner tomorrow. Now, being at home with a 2-year old probably won't allow a ton of time for cooking, but I'm really hoping I'll be able to do at least a little more than I have been when I've been getting home at 6:00 each day.
8. My ex-boss already told me he is going to dispute my claim for unemployment, so I'm going to have a fight on my hands. I'm hoping this will just be a good exercise in self-restraint and learning to keep my confidence intact.
9. So far, this has been quite a reminder of the fabulous support systems I have all around me and I'm feeling quite loved and cared for. This includes all of you Babblers. Thank you *so* very much!
10. That which does not kill us only makes us stonger.

10. you don't have to see that jerk of a boss again (until you hire him to clean your floors for you, with a toothbrush).
9. while you find this perfect job, you'll have some much needed rest and relaxation time (ok, you'll be with your son all day long, but that's what you wanted for so long)
8. just think of all the baked goods you'll have for your new interview. cookies always wow the new boss, so you'll be hired in no time!
7. your wonderful husband will be patient and supportive while you find your dream job, and you'll fall even more in love with him (but, beware you don't have another child in your time off!).
6. you can talk to me anytime you need to, so you'll be spending most of your time laughing (and of course falling in love with me!).
5. picnics in the park with your son... isn't that the best way to spend a day?
4. you won't have to worry aobut doing laundry at 3 am for a while (do it during your son's nap time dear.).
3. this is a great reason for you to take up smoking (hey! all the cool people do it!).
2. when you find a new job, it'll be one where you are appreciated and don't dread going to work everyday.
1. everyone is here to keep you company, listen to you get upset, share your joy when you find a better job, listen to you say "my stinker did the cutest thing today, he ate cheezits off the floor" (and every cute thing he does starting today), and help you in any possible way we can!
((((((((laurie))))))))) i know you're a little scared right now, but don't be. this is a wonderful opportunity for you to find that job you've always wanted to do. this is a chance for you to be a stay at home mom while you are looking. this is your chance to shine, as you always do. things will be wonderful for you dear, i promise! you're going to find that new job (after a bit of time with your son) and you'll be the new company rock star! (plus, you may find some cute new coworkers too, adn that's always a great thing!)

I always knew I liked your husband. :) What a winner you have there.
Your attitude is not only positive, but it's also realistic. Being at a job you hate is a huge stressor, and sometimes we need a bit of a nudge to do what's healthiest for us in terms of leaving it.
And give your former boss h*ll in fighting the unemployment!!! I don't know what it's like in your area, but in my area it's almost impossible to successfully fight an unemployment claim, so most likely that's his last attempt to intimidate you. I know you'll do a great job in finding out what you need to do to fight his intentions.

I'm sorry you had to go through losing your job. That's never a pleasant experience. But you have such a wonderful attitude. Good for you! What strength you have. And I just can't wait to hear all about your little stinker. How special this time will be for both of you. Enjoy it. And I'll try not to drool into my keyboard when I hear about the yummies you've baked.
Take care sweetie. And imagine your ex-boss popping up in that picture!
Take care, sweetie.

Remember - that's your mantra sweetie pie. Change is often surprisingly wonderful! I'll bet as you begin to talk to more and more people about this, you'll find tons who lost jobs, and found much happiness at the next one. I know I surely did!
As we discussed (shan't go into details in public!) it was the bestest thing that ever happened to me!!
Change can be scarey, surely it can be - just remember your mantra. It truly can be a wonderous experience. Without it we'd have no butterflies! :-)

10. Don't have to set the alarm clock anymore!
9. I can spend all my free time entertaining the Babble people with delightful anecdotes about my darling boy.
8. I can cook a meal that takes longer than 20 minutes to prepare.
7. I might get a tan this summer (remember to wear sunblock!).
6. I'll make sure that I get the right job, not the next one.
5. I'll have time to really enjoy my 2 year-old growing and developing, instead of someone else doing it for me.
4. I'll be able to give my loving, supportive husband the same because I won't be whacked out over work.
3. I'll have time to think about what kind of job would really give me satisfaction, instead of grief.
2. When it comes time to face off with my ex-employer regarding my claim, I'll be able to take a deep breath, count to 10, and counter in a completely rational and calm manner.
1. I will learn as much as my little one from taking him to all those neat places.

Thank you so much for your('re?) list for me. I love everyone of them, but I must admit, number one is my favorite. Oh, and you must know you're not going to convert me to a smoker that easily.
I truly appreciate your support and encoragement. I am enjoying my new status as full-time mommy and wife, but just bear with me if I freak out a bit here and there.

Thanks, Dinah!
I've heard the same thing about unemployment here and I do feel as though he was just trying to intimidate me as he never before said one bad thing about me or my work. I guess I'm just afraid of what lengths he will go to in order to save himself a few bucks. I don't have a doubt in my mind that he would make things up for his own benefit.
I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens. I already filed the claim for unemployment, so hopefully, I can get this over with soon.
I really appreciate your support, Dinah!

Thanks, gg! I really feel this huge sense of relief since Wednesday. It's been quite nice and although I am a bit nervous, my husband has assured me it's okay to relax for a bit. So, my goal over my time off is to learn how to make the best cheesecake ever. It's one thing I've never attempted, but I absolutely love. I'll let you know how it goes! First, though, I just got a great recipe for muffins. I've got to try that ASAP! :)
Oh, and I'm allowing (or trying to allow) myself only one time a day to imagine the picture. It's great because it makes me laugh, but I don't want to give him anymore time than he derserves. Know what I mean? Thanks for passing it along! It helps and I'll probably up it to two or three times a day if I have to fight him for my unemployment comp.
Thanks for listening!

Emmy,
This is the topic of discussion for therapy tomorrow. Change usually immediately sends me into a downward spiral. Not this time, though! I do believe it's a blessing in disguise. Maybe it's not even disguised all that well this time. So far, I feel good and I'm considering all my options. Things are going to be better.
You are my role model. If you see me getting discouraged, please just bop me over the head and say, "hey! Remember me?"
Thanks, Emmy!

Wow, partly! I love this list :). Thank you so much. You don't even know how much I love number ten. I *hate* alarm clocks with a passion!
Oh, and my husband already said I should get a nice tan while my little guy takes a nap in the afternoon. How sweet is that?
It was really very nice of you to make a list for me and I'm so glad you're here and posting! I hope everything is going well for you. :)
(((((partlycloudy)))))
Thanks a bunch!

1) I am the WORST role model selection! Quickly change your plan!! :-)
2) When I bop you on the head, can I sing "Little Rabbit Foo Foo"???? That would make it even more fun!!

Hey All Done,
Did you get a chance to make those muffins? It took me two or three tries to work out the amounts of flour/cornmeal/millet to find the right balance for me crunch/sweet wise and also my oven temp varies so I bake slightly longer.
I used to bake them for all my charges I took care of as well as bring some to group when I used to go. You would be surprised at the reaction of bringing a dozen homebaked muffins to your mechanic or local gas station attendants. It is fun to make em and being only one here I take the rest out as gifts.
My godkids are coming to visit me tomorrow so hopefully tonight I will have a batch ready for three sets of grubby mitts clammoring for goodies. = )
Sooooooooo...what did you think? a recipe to keep or one to toss in the circular file? ; )
--zhP.S. super bonus points for a husband who assures you that it is okay to relax for a bit. That's a keeper there!

> Hey All Done,
Hi there, Zen! Sorry I haven't written back. It's been a really long long-weekend for me.
> Did you get a chance to make those muffins? It took me two or three tries to work out the amounts of flour/cornmeal/millet to find the right balance for me crunch/sweet wise and also my oven temp varies so I bake slightly longer.Unfortunately, my son has been very sick since Friday. We actually had to bring him to the ER on Sunday night/Monday morning when he had a fever of 104.3! Turns out it's "just" an ear infection, so we have medicine for him now, but I wasn't able to get out much until yesterday for a bit. I bought all the ingredients I need for the muffins, but the store I was at was out of buttermilk. I'm familiar with the possible substitutions, but they've never quite worked for me. So, I'm going to get the buttermilk somewhere else. I'm *so* anxious to make them, though!

Oooh, I love bringing baked goods as gifts! You are so lovely to share them with others. Baked goods seem to make everyone happy, don't they?

Have a fabulous day tomorrow, Zen! Your godkids are quite lucky to have you as their godmother.

You got that one right!
Thanks again for passing the recipe along. I bet they are going to be so yummy!

Omg Laurie! How scary to have your little one with such a high temp. Please give that bundle of sweetness some extra TLC. I'm so sorry y'all had to go through that over the wknd.
I do know that a child with a fever like that gets seen right away so that much was good.
> Have a fabulous day tomorrow, Zen! Your godkids are quite lucky to have you as their godmother.
You're kind to say so. They go through phases where I'm the best thing on earth and then I can't even compete with princesses and all things seven and under. I do think that my home icee maker will one again advance my placement in the running for coolest adult they know. My dog is a hit with them as well. One even asked if I was bringing dog to amusement park. lol I said they didn't allow her on the little car rides because she gets carsick. That seemed to satisfy her for now!Be with your family and cuddle up to that keeper of a hubby and watch over your wee one with 'only an ear infection'. I cannot believe some doc would say that to worried parents! I'm just relieved to hear he is being treated and by now the infection should be clearing up.
Have fun whenever you do get a chance to bake.
