Assuming the article is true, I don't find it that scary at all. In fact I found it reassuring that the situation was being monitored.
I'll bet my next paycheck that the guy in front was a marshal. And probably several of the others, including the ones that did the final bathroom sweeps.
The author was told they were all Syrian because the govmt didn't want to give away anyone flying in cover.

I'm afraid that I don't share your optimism about the situation being monitored. I know you state that you can always see both sides, but this time, I'm taking the woman's side who was there and wrote the article.

That is scary. I don't really know how I feel about how our gov is handling terrorism. I certainly wouldn't want to see racial profiling become the norm, but I'd like to feel safe too. There must be a way that our gov can protect us without taking away our civil rights. Because once they start doing that, where will they stop?
I don't see why they can't just search everyone, or come up with a better way to detect weapons. I don't know, I just never quite believe the gov. I think there are probably a million things hidden from us that we'll never know about. Someday, our ancestors will read about us in the history books and find it hard to believe we actually believed this and that. I mean, that's what always happens, isn't it?

You may well be right. I was just basing it on what I heard about the marshals - they sit in the front by the cabin door. And the bit about the stewardess whispering to her that their were 'higher' people on board.
And I certainly didn't mean to imply that this level of 'being prepared' happens for every flight. It's just reassuring that it *does* happen at all.

taking away civil rights. They call it the Patriot Act. Wiretap? Who needs approval. Approval is for wimps. Got a problem with it? You must not be a patriot, or worse a *liberal* (spitting the word out like it's a fungus)

Um-m-m-m fungus. (Sorry, that was my Homer Simpson impersonation).
Yeah, I meant take away our civil rights *more than they already have!* And although liberal is a derogatory term, and I hate being labled, if the only alternative is conservative, well then, I guess I'm a liberal. But I won't get on my high horse here, except to say: I hope I get to see a women president before I die. To have only white men is so outdated. Sigh.

Hmmm. I'm feeling pretty good today (as compared to the last coupla weeks). Maybe I will start a campaign and run for president in 2008. Woohoo.Although I also think that Michael Moore's suggestion of Oprah for president is not a bad one...

Because on page 7(+/-1) she cites Coulter as a source in her research. The part about profiling.
This is the end of the thread.
