i have been on effexor for a little over a year. I just weaned my way off 2 weeks ago today. I stopped taking the medicine completely. It has been very hard i feel very dizzy a times and my head just gets so confused if you know what i mean. I also dont feel good about myself i feel that being on effexor has contributed to me gaining weight about 20 pounds. My legs also ache and it is very very hard to get up inthe morning. I decided to go off now because in 6 monthes i want to start trying to have a baby and i don't wan't my child to have to suffer because of me. I also started walking 3 miles a day and started a diet. I am not that fat but i feel terrible i guess you can say i am depressed and i am trying to function off of the medicine. I started seeing a therapist and i am trying so hard. i feel like everyday is a struggle. I figured let me do it now when i am not working i am a teacher and i dont go back until september. I really would like to know if anyone else is going through something similar or has been down this road. HAs effexor made you gain some weight and how did you feel on it and now off it? Also i was on effexor 10 years ago for about a year and went off that time 10 years a go i lost like 40 pounds this time i gaines weight i am now 31 years old and need someone to talk too. Although i have a great husband it is hard for him to understand. Need help thanks

i'd redirect you if i could, but i can't. i know there was a thread on how to, but i didn't read it. sorry :(
but, i'm listening. i'm sorry you are struggling right now though. it's very courageous of you to wean off of effexor for the sake of your 'soon to be' child! (and very premature congrats.. am i the first to say it????? god, i hope i'm not jinxing it!!!!)
the weight will come off, with all that walking, i'm sure. stay away from mcdonalds. better yet, if you can get a job there, you'll never eat there again. i promise!!!!!
take care dear! it's a struggle, but you'll come out on top, promise!

Hi, Sha. You'll find oodles of help on the main Psycho Babble (medication) board. How very courageous and conscientious of you to do this for your baby's future! I started taking effexor last October and I have been on so many other AD's that I couldn't attribute my weight gain to a particularmedication, apart from Zyprexa. That one would be good if I ever wanted to be a hippo.
There are others on the med board who have weaned themselves off effexor. Good luck and nice to meet you!.
