Any ideas for a second job??

Posted by NikkiT2 on August 13, 2004, at 8:35:27

Isn;t it just typical.. just as soon as I star getting my life in order, the past 3 years of not working catches up with me.

I have financial problems, not little ones, big huge major ones.

I need, urgently, to get a second job.. OK, so I have NO idea how I will cope with having a second job as I'm exhuasted from one at the moment.. but I have no real choice in this matter.

Bar work and waitressing are out.. one reason is the social phobia aspect.. the other being I live in an area with a high population of foreign workers (lots of Ozzie, Kiwi and South Africans) who are happy for work for cash in hand, thus under minimum wage..

But I need ideas for what else I could do with no initial outlay..

help!

Nikki

The limiting factor for you (if no waitressing) is the early shut times. Even the Richmond "late night package store" closed at 7.

Any local book stores need Saturday help? It's the public, but more civilized than a bar.

I dont know where you live, but i have the same dilemma, i want to get another job, but i dont want to deal with people all day because I too have social phobia. But, I can a little if its not too stressful. I thought about a tanning salon. Because, all as they do is say Hello and push a button. I could do that! Or even a petstore/vet office wouldnt be bad. I would rather work around animals than people anyday!
Good Luck

How about elder care? Unfortunately there is a huge need for people to work with elderly people who are managing to live in their own homes but need help. Anything from being a relief sitter for weekends when the regular sitter is off to running errands or helping them write their checks and balance their bank accounts.

thought about a mccareer?

i'm having fun working around teenagers and i guarantee they'll work around your schedule. honestly, if you go in with a positive attitude, though, any job should fit into your needs dear. make the job work for you and your needs and it will. let me think for a second...

do they have those 'work from home, pay by the part' type jobs where you live? the kind where you sort parts for factories from home? or stuff envelopes and get paid depending on the number of parts/etc you do? that would work for you.

paper route? (hey, if you did just one route every morning, it would add up. am i being dense? i've never had a paper route, so i don't know how much you'd make.)

try walking dogs or watching kids (do you like children? if not, don't try it) on the weekends.

ohhhhhhh... what about cleaning houses on the weekends? no one to call boss. no one watching over you. no one around. hmmmm..... advertise in the paper. what about that? you could pick up some extra cash every weekend (my sister does this) by cleaning! yes, that would work, right? just a few hours every saturday morning and she has a hundred bucks in her pocket! what about that?

good luck nikki doll and remember it's only money dearie. don't let it stress you out too much. i can send you five dollars and sixty five cents, if that would help :( i wish i had more to spare. (((nikki))))

Library?

This is difficult. No place over there stays open late like they do here. We've got bookstores that are open 'til 9PM, so over here a person could work evenings, too.

What part of the UK are you in? Any touristy places nearby that may need someone to work ticket sales or behind the counter at gift shops? Those places are open Sat. And Sun.

Keeping racking brain.....

How about typing at home? Many business are jobbing things out. Data entry stuff. Wineries do this all time and catalog companies.

Childcare workers are always needed on the weekends. If you speak another language, translating for tour groups could be fun.

Good luck. hate those money problems.

Nikki, I hope you don't mind me asking, but have you sought any help for managing your financial problems. Obviously they don't just go away but can be eased by people who are expert in financial matters.
Take care.
