as people age, their brains change... my grandmother went nutty when she hit menopause and she never really recovered. i don't think it's unheard of for someone to become manic or psychotic at age 70... when i worked in nursing homes people who were perfectly, uh, "normal" started having panic attacks and anxiety attacks, got depressed, etc. i don't think mania is too far off from that. just the other extreme of depression.

hope her meds help her. :/

Oh Slinky. I am so sorry this is happening to you. My mother was in her 80's and she totally lost it. We had to hospitalize her for the last years of her life. She actually was loved and well cared for by the staff.
But it was very painful for all of us her children. My heart goes out to you.

She's suffered big anxiety..for years and years..but she's not self medicating with alcohol anymore..I feel warmer towards her now she's not drunk.
Her energy level is really high..better than mine .
She's a very strong woman so I know she'll pull through.
Thanks for your posts..I wrote here after the telephone conversation with her..it really drained me.
I have no one to talk about these things with.
