Did anyone watch the Jane Pauley interview? She talked about her experienced being diagnosed as bipolar and being hospitalized. For me it was a little like watching my life being spun out on TV. I'm younger by 10 years but it was her response to it, her surprise, her struggle to keep going, that really touched me.
That said, I was a little surprised that she never talked about therapy, just "her doctors" and "psychopharmacology." For someone who now says she is trying to remove the stigma of mental illness, she left out a big part.

I saw bits and pieces of it. Is it just me or was I the only one that was surprised that she had a mental illness?

Drat. I wish I had known about it. That's what comes from turning your life over to Tivo and living in Nick at Night and TV Land. :)

It was on Dateline last night, on NBC.
She's got a book out, too, called Skywriting, which talks about her bipolar disorder..

She just announced that she is dealing with Bipolar Disorder this past week, in connection with her book coming out, Skywriting. And she also is starting a new talk show.
Even that guy who interviewed her, and who is her friend, didn't realize she was struggling with it....

Thanks for the information. I think I'll look for the book then. She really did hide it well, but then there have been a fair number of people who have accomplished a lot with bipolar illness.

Here's a link from MSNBC on-line. It's some, if not all, of last night's interview.

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon
The first time anyone refers to a book without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she at least knows about it. It's just an option, though, and doesn't *have* to be used. If people *choose* not to use it, I'd be interested why not, but I'd like that redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration:

Thanks!

I saw the interview and thought it was really good. She was so well-spoken and had great insights. She seemed very capable--not hindered by what she has been thru, just changed. I really enjoyed it. Enough to run out and buy her book!
This is the end of the thread.
