My favorite psych related movie

Posted by Dinah on September 6, 2004, at 10:38:10

What's Eating Gilbert Grape

While his situation is clearly more extreme than mine, it also reminds me so much of my role in my family of origin. I can't watch the movie without crying.

And ironically, at the same time I identify with the morbidly obese woman who is an emotional burden, as well as an emotional resource, to her family. It reminds me of me now. I'm not morbidly obese, but I do feel like I'm a burden sometimes and it is my over-arching purpose in life to make sure my son doesn't feel like he needs to be a caretaker.

Overall, it's a movie that reaches me on a very deep level. Which is why I own it, but try not to watch it.

I'm thinking those should be required therapy school assignments. I'd love to have one of those counselors as my own. Or Daisy's. Or Pfinstegg's. Or mine.

I liked how "Girl, Interrupted" was interpreted on-screen. Even if all the characters were way too good looking. it was the first time I thought Angelina Jolie was a good actor.

Yeah, that was good. I don't see a lot of psych related movies. I mostly see one or two block busters each year. My hubby rents a lot, but they are not psych flicks. All action. ugh.

I did like Bruce Willis, though, in Sixth Sense.

gg

Yeah. He was definitely good.

But I think I prefer my therapist to be alive.

Oops. Spoiler above.

Perhaps Dr. Bob should remove the immediately preceding post. :(

What about these?

I remember "Kramer vs Kramer" having an enormous impact on me. (Especially coming from a broken home). A few others I enjoyed were "As Good As It Gets", "A Beautiful Mind", "Dead Poets Society", "Rainman". Oh yes, and then there was "The Champ"

Tearjerkers or what!

"As Good As It Gets" is one of my favorite movies. My only gripe (as someone with OCD) was that they didn't clarify that the main character clearly had OCD *and* a personality disorder.
