here a jumper is a sleeveless dress like thing that goes over a blouse, usually worn by hopelessly style deficient little girls - or private school attendees.

what you call a jumper, we call a sweater..

Actually, we don't call it jumper or sweater but call it a jersey.

Jumper - British??
Sweater - American
Jersey - South African

Wonder if there are other versions.

Just to complicate everything, I grew up in Scotland and wore jerseys!
