For those of you who are at home today, you may want to turn on Oprah. She will be talking with some actors/actresses and their struggle with depression and mental illness. I'm curious to see if mental illness is portrayed correctly or if it's going to be a glossed-over holywood verison.
Anyway, just thought that I'd pass the info along if you were interested in watching it.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't usually watch Oprah, but I will try to tune in today.

Linda Hamilton, Maurice Bernard (Sonny from General Hospital) & Shawn Colvin were on Oprah today. They have bipolar & depression and were talking about medication and their struggles with depression. They talked about going on and off of medication and why people are tempted to do so when they start to feel better. Linda said that it took her ten years to get to the place in her life where she was stable and living the life she was meant to live and get her life in balance. It was interesting to see them talk about their issues with mental illness and how close they'd all come to suicide, but when she said that it's taken her 10 years to get to a place where she feels like she's gotten her life together, I was just crushed. I feel like I am so far from having my life together. I feel like that is such a distant destination and I, frankly, don't have ten years to spend figuring out or working it out. I feel sick and tired and hate myself so much for being in this place. All I can think is that I should feel better and be better and be done with this.

Usually these people include all the time BEFORE they were diagnosed, too, so don't let the mention of a time period dishearten you.
Every one needs to take their own "time". Whether it is ten years, ten month, ten weeks, or ten days. You will know what is right for you.

I believe that Linda Hamilton said that she was in denial for 10 years and did not seek continuous help. She started and stopped meds several times. Just the fact that you're on this board is a tremendous step in the right direction. You're reaching out and seeking help. I saw her as being motivational in that there is some relief from this illness...even though it may take some time.

and don't forget that it must be much harder to find "normal" in a show biz environment. Okay??
