I wonder if they knew that when they were making up the name... I wonder if they figured, lets give it a nice symetrical name so people like it better. maybe, maybe not.. ha.

i actually do think some psychology goes into drug names. "viagra," for example sounds like "vitality" or "vigor." "prozac" sounds kind of "proactive" or "promising," i think. "trileptal" was originally an epileptic drug, and sounds kind of like it, right? "advair" (for asthma) sounds very open-air-way like. "ambien" sounds very dreamlike, doesn't it?
i dunno. it's just been my hunches. i'm pretty sure the fda makes up the generic names (that's what i've been told; i work in the pharmaceutical industry), but the manufacturer makes the brand names up.

i agree..absolutely. i, too, think they try to evoke a certain ambience/psychological association with many med names. and i liked the examples you gave! :-)
take care!

i've been reading, but not posting. i heard about your terrible ordeal. :( i'm glad you're doing okay now, but i'm sorry your boss is so damn uptight. :/
(ha. read THAT, uptight boss!)
my job's actually really good. i like what i do. i like who i work for. things on that front are good.
i've had some med problems and i'm trying to get into a routine with seeing mental health professionals. (unfortunately, i just heard the pdoc i started getting attached to is no longer going to be at the downtown location that's convenient for me, and is going to be over an hour from my job; hardly worth a 15-30min appt! but i feel kinda betrayed since i found out secondhand.)
anyhow. in short, i'm still alive. and we both know that's the biggest battle of all.
glad you are too.
*hugs*
