snowed in what would you do?

Posted by smokeymadison on December 22, 2004, at 17:15:49

the forecast is 15-18 inches by tomorrow night. i ran out to the grocery and barely made it there and back. what do you do when you are snowed in? i suppose i could break out a bunch of movies i haven't seen in a while. and drink a lot of hot chocolate.

that sounds so wonderful! i remember when i lived in chicago and we'd have these huge snowfalls and a reason to hibernate. of course cabin fever ultimately became a challenge but for a while it was great. where i live we don't get snow so we never have a 'reason' to hang out.

I'm a buckeye, too. (Well, at least live in that state). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the sleet and ice that fell all night long doesn't knock down power lines.

But snowed in, hmm, we did go to the grocery yesterday and have pretty much what we need for the next few days...except the people. I'm supposed to drive an hour north to get my mom and brother and bring them back here tomorrow. And my sis is flying in tomorrow afternoon. Unfortunately, her carrier just announced cancelling all flights at the local airport. We just may have to punt.

We have a fireplace in our living room. It's very cozy, but it's also a small one, so it can get sooty and smoky no matter how skilled my hubby is at lighting a fire. We like to play games, drink wine or hot chocolate, or listen to music when snowed in.

Fallen, your ideas sound fun, too. I really need to color my hair.

i have decided to watch the movie "Butterfly Effect" for the first time. i heard that it is very good. i can't wait to see it! i am also going to finish a project i started a year ago--sewing curtains to hang in front of my ugly closet. i took off the doors so i could reach everything so they need some sort of cover. fun fun!

You may want to watch it a couple of times...

I haven't seen snow since I was about 4.
We have mountains a couple of hours away, but I can't ski and I think my feet are opposed to the cold (old injuries and they kind of seize up).

I am ambivalent about the virtues of snow...
I dislike the cold.
But then I dislike the hot too.
There is no pleasing me really.
Summer hasn't come here yet.
Weather forcast says not for another month.
It is later every year.
Or maybe it is just shorter every year...
We don't get either extreme here
But the humidity
The humidity is a killer.

the butterfly effect is a good movie, you just need to hang in there for a while til the plot gets going. enjoy!

i made a curtain cover for a doorway similar to what you are doing. one of the things i employed was the omnipresent martha stewart grommets. adds some interest and you just pound them into the fabric (ok martha probably is rolling over in her cell hearing that). one problem is you have to go out in the snow to get them. scratch that idea.

My haircolor of choice is dark auburn brown with copper highlights. Otherwise my hair would be a combination of early gray and dull medium brown.

Update on family: my sister's flight was cancelled. She and her fiance are coming tomorrow morning instead. Fortunately, they rented a car, so I only have to go pick up my mom on Christmas morning now. We decided not to get together tonight because sis wouldn't be here yet and my hubby is also sick. So it's been a very quiet Christmas Eve for me.

Good thing "A Christmas Story" is on!

Merry Christmas!
