Thank you Jay and Cass. I lean toward Oxfam (they have existing aid structures in the region) and Save the Children. And I'm especially grateful to Cass for the Act for Change link. Since I'm not in a position to donate significant amounts of money, I feel relieved to know that I can at least make my voice heard to those who ARE in a position to act responsibly. (Note the MoveOn note that we spend 35 million every 7 hours in Iraq. Can that really be right??? Have I once again dropped or added 6 or 7 zeros?)
At any rate, today I felt an unaccustomed pride and gratitude toward fellow Americans who have been privately donating millions of dollars to tsunami relief.
My deepest thanks and respect to all of you who have been able to donate money or time.
henrietta
