I am searching for some answers. My voices and visions began 20 years ago with a flash of light. At first the angels of God was my teachers and they tought me about the word of the Lord, then Satan's demons came in and began torturering me. I have found no one in 20 years that are going through things like me. The Dr's. say that I am schizophrenic because I hear and see what I hear and see, but their test are in conclusive. No medication has ever worked over the last 20 years. Although my family is understanding and supportive of me, they can not understand because the can't see and hear it. The preachers treat me like a mental case, and I can't get any answers. It's just that things that the angel's had told me in the past I have seen come true over the years. I am not a prophet, don't think I am God, and don't even pretend to be. I am just a guy looking for some answers. I was told as you get closer to the age of 50 the voices and visions lighten up for most, I am 6 months short of 50 and it's speding up getting worse. So if there is anyone out there going through this and you have some answers please help me out.

Hello,
>No medication has ever worked over the last 20 years.
Which medications have you been prescribed?

>Hi,
Well I don't have a lot of experience with what you are going through, I have a bit of knowledge about treatment. Usually, 'typical' older antipsychotics where precribed for the positive symtoms you mentioned, like hallucinations and voices. What seems to happen is over time, your body may become 'used' to the meds, and they may not be as effective. But, I know of a couple of people who use both 'typical' older meds (like Largactil) at lower doses, with a bit higher doses of the newer, 'atypical' antipsychotics (Zyprexa, Risperdone, Seroquel). You also really might benefit from some group therapy, even though it sounds useless, but you won't feel so alone, and may find out that there is something triggering your symptoms.
Honestly, I believe your symptoms and illness have become one of the 'easiest' to treat (I mean that with respect.) You just need to find a good doctor to treat you with some blend of diverse meds. Plus, social support is really important...as it will keep the 'negative' symptoms like depression and anxiety down. Best of luck...please keep us posted as to how you are doing.
Best,
Jay

Hello,
In the beginning it was haldal and medication like that, in the last years zyprexa, with any of the meds they have giving me the voices and visions never stop. I have taken them through all the bad side effects and all like I was suppose to and there was never any relief. I used to drink untill I passed out, but that is no longer an option for me, and trying to get some rest is like trying to win the lottery.

I countine to try, believe me if there is something out there that would make it possiable to take my family out to eat with out seeing people spitting, starring, and yelling out profanities I would be more than happy to take the medication. As far as Group therepy I have not heard of it around here. (Small Town) And the councler that I have is really of no help, she wants me to say this or that when it does not apply to me, just to fill out her form.
I guess I am really looking for someone to say I know what you mean!
I don't know why I am being told that I am going to Hell, my sins are no greater or lesser than other men's. I don't know why when I go out in the public people eyes roll back in their heads and the began cussing me, calling me names, and snakes climb on them. I don't know why I can't be with my wife in public and every man she comes in contact with there is some kind of sexual display that is really not occuring. Why do the voices come from 6 year old daughter? Believe me I am trying!!!!!!!! But Can anyone say, "Hey I know what you mean, I have seen it too!"

I cannot say I have had the same experiences, but I was in an outpatient day program of group therapies with someone who did.
She suffered terribly with these things; medications only did so much, but she never stops trying to find one that will.
I hope that you can find one (or two, three, whatever is necessary) to spare you this torment.
I am sending best wishes your way,

BK:
John Nash, whose life was chronicled in the movie "a Beautiful Mind", battled and won his struggle with schizophrenia mainly with sheer willpower. An amazing story. Perhaps you can do some research on the specifics of Nash's experience (If you haven't seen the movie, please do). Maybe he's written a book about it.
I don't share your symptoms, although I'm always struggling to keep my head above water mental health-wise. I feel for you.
Best Regards,
Ron

Hi,
Have you ever tried clozapine (Clozaril, Leponex)?
