I suffer from social anxiety. I started Effexor 37.5 yesterday. I felt extremely bad, vomiting, diarrhea, heart palpatation, shortness of breath. Is this normal? How long does it last. Are there any other social anxiety suffers out there. Please help!!

Hi, Patricia - welcome to Babble. I had great success with Effexor XR for my depression and GAD - generalized anxiety. The side effects were severe for me, too; but after 4 or 5 weeks they subsided. You should start to feel better with the anxiety within a week if it's going to help.
I was on effexor for about a year, and now I'm on Cymbalta because I developed high blood pressure. I just started taking a beta blocker and that is helping a lot with my anxiety. Interestingly enough when I changed from effexor I had no trouble tapering off even though starting the med was uncomfortable. Go figure...
Hang in there, and welcome again!

I've been doing effexor (among others) for over a year now. It seems to be helping me more than paxil did.
These type of questions will get more answers on the med board (psyco-babble) but be forwarned there are a few people there that really don't like the drug. Always remember "your milage may vary"

Hi. I reposted this at the medication board, where you're likely to get more responses.
Here's a link.
