I'm Nervous

Posted by Susan47 on February 25, 2005, at 10:31:54

This is why I was doing so much mj -- my stomach is tied up in knots. I have this job interview.. I'm not qualified for the job, I don't have the skills they're looking for, but I have an interview. Why? Why would they call me in? I know I'm not going to get the job. I know this interview will just be practice for me. I need to remember that. I need the practice. I can't afford to be tied up in knots over ANYTHING. Breathe deep, Susan, breathe deeply and relax, calm down, shoulders back and down, I need to see a massage therapist so badly... I think I might be doing permanent damage to nerves by living with this constant pain. I have a referral, I just need to make an appointment. Why haven't I done that? Why have I been so inept with my life? Aaggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

remember we were talking about practice interviewing anyway- don't look a gift horse in the mouth, sweetie!

You didn't even have to hunt up the practice this time!

Go with it... maybe they see something in you that you hide from yourself...if it feels like that, try to listen and figure out what it is!!

Can only help, whether you "get the job" or not- the interview will still serve a purpose.

Put on your best Suze-smile and knock 'em dead !

What job skills does this job need?

What skills do you have and where do you feel you come up short?

It's a casual position, I don't have some of the computer skills they're looking for. That's it. Everything else I have, I think.
But the interview's over, now.
They told me I qualified for the job and they're checking my references. Also told me to take the medical terminology test at the hospital and have that forwarded onto them. I hope my references check out well. That's the thing I'm nervous about now. How will those people handle the phone call they receive, you know? I mean they're expecting it they know they're my references, but still, what if it's a bad day for them, what if something the interviewer asks them triggers a bad memory about me, what if, what if, what if ...
Anyway I can't sweat that anymore. It's over, done with, if I don't get the job I'm going to call my references and ask them what they said....
But I have to take my textbook with me this weekend and study if I can. Refresh my memory... I have an exam to write. Two, actually. Oh man. I miss my therapist at times like this. I need a therapist at times like this.

it sounds like you did great! having been on the other end of the phone giving references i can tell you there are a lot of restrictions on what a previous employer can and cannot say. if they are following the law they pretty much have to stick to the basics. good luck!

You mean you had all the other qualifications and all you lack is a few computer skills?????

Geez - I thought you were applying to be an airline pilot or something.

Don't worry about the references. They won't ask much. Mainly they want to be sure you didn't make them up and that you're not a liar. If they even bother to call them at all. I've been listed as a reference dozens of times and not had one call.
