I was just looking over some notes doctors have written and noticed that they all have very bad handwriting. I can barely make out what it is they have written... Why are doctors able to get away with this? Maybe doctors have a certain personality that gives this this trait? I think it is more likely they had to learn to write extremely fast during medical school. :-P Just a wild guess.
It's not fair...I wanna use illegable handwriting...but I can't, my work won't be graded if the TA's can't read it. :-P
N.B. Not generalizing here...just observations
:o)

Yes. They do.
>I can barely make out what it is they have written...
I have wondered if maybe that is the point...
To make precription forgery harder...
OTOH maybe it is to disguise their bad spelling ;-)>Why are doctors able to get away with this?
I had wondered whether it may be expected...

Hmm. Nobody writes faster than me. Well... Not many people anyway. I would be willing to bet on that.
> It's not fair...I wanna use illegable handwriting...but I can't, my work won't be graded if the TA's can't read it. :-PHeh heh. Yeah. I have learned to write both fast and legibly.

I had wondered...
Whether general medical notes were as illegible as mental health medical notes...I had wondered whether the bad handwriting may be to PREVENT the transfer of information. I was DETERMINED to decipher my mental health notes. But I don't think the average nurse could be bothered. I don't think the average client could be bothered.
I don't know.
Anyone else have any ideas????
I have wondered abotu this too :-)

I'm in med school and our handwriting seems to have deteriorated to the standard expected of doctors! We think it's because we have to maintain eye contact with the patient *while* writing.

to prevent malpractice suits??
no one can determine whether they have done "no harm" if their notes can't even be read...
(glass half empty)
or, they are too busy caring about us to worry about a silly thing like handwriting??

> Ah. Yes. That would complicate matters slightly.Ofcourse lots of people have bad handwriting, but don't have other people reading it, unlike doctors who do.
