Thanks, fallsfall. I didn't even think of the sticky, yellow strips. I remember we used to use them on my grandparents' farm. Very effective. Well, I will try to pick up one or two tomorrow. More amunition - yipee!!!
Tamara
> The ugly yellow spirally strips that come in a little cylinder work really well, but they are really ugly. Vacuuming sounds like more fun. But if you are short on time, hang up some of the sticky strips.

> Yes Rainbowbrite it's true. I got very disgusted too when I learned that, but then I realized well, I've been eating them all my life. Don't worry eventually you tune out the knowledge :lGROSS :G (thats a barfy face)
> And yeah, the killing techniques, I hear you.
> I poured salt on a slug once and I cried.
> I thought it killed them instantly, but it doesn't. I ran into the house to get water to pour water on it but it didn't help the little guy. I won't ever do that again.AWWW that is so sad, I avoid stepping on ants, but one time I did it and it broke my heart. It was a bigger ant not the kind you can barely see. OMG I felt so bad.

If you love gardening, you hate HATE slugs. I take great pleasure in drowning them in soapy water overnight. :) Does that make me an abusive person? Oh well , I learned it from my parents! It is their fault

But RainbowBrite, I'm sure yours are a special strawberry kind.
Yes that's true, and it's true even if you wash them because they are in the skin, (otherwise rain and getting knocked around would get rid of them) You could peel everything, but then you'd miss out on the bioflavinoids and nutrients that prevent wrinkles.

I think you better change the bag or empty the bagless kinds or they will just crawl out again. I don't know if this will work for fruit flies, but I know it works with fleas if you put a flea collar in your bag when you sweep. It will kill those nasty burgers!

You wouldn't feel sorry for them if you wake up the next morning and they completely ate all your flowers overnight@ It happens they can destroy your garden overnight. Who can love a thing that looks like snot? Yuck! They are NASTY!!!! I love animals but I do not like slugs!

Or let them drown themselves in beer, at least they would be very happy before they go to slug hell or do they go to heaven? Are there slugs in heaven?

I grew up in farmland USA, and believe me you want to wash the veggies and fruit before you eat them. Fruit fly eggs are the least of your worries! I am not kidding either! Would you drink unpasterized milk? lol

NO LOL i was jsut kidding, but I actually am lazy as anything so I eat fruit without washing it a bit, carrots and stuff. i would think farms would require less washing than city fruit :-) I went to a farm where they had a veggie garden and they were eating it right out of the ground...eww sick
GAbbix's info has ruined my vegetable life! LOL

HAHA you crack me up!
I would say stepping on them is the more humane way....gasping for air...or crunch its over! I like crunch its over but this is a very morbid topic LOL and I think slugs would go directly to YOUR garden HAHAHA no heaven or hell for slugs.

Of course it's your parents fault! I love gardening, that's how I met slugs. I just used to sprinkle pine needles or ground nutshells around, the slugs don't crawl over them because it hurts their tummies. I tried keeping one plant aside and saying "This one is for you guys to have for a snack, it's especially delicious! just for slugs" But they aren't good at listening really.
Well, maybe one did.

Well I would! No it's not the flies, goofy, in many fruits though the micronutrients which are very important for your skin are actually in the skin of the fruit.
However, unless you're buying organic, you're probably balancing things out with pesticides. So eat pumpkin, and blueberries and Amla fruit (it's indian gooseberry) very very good for your skin, but it's SOUR, it's like biting into a non-chewable vitamin C tablet. It's not really for pleasure though, just think of it as medicine for your wrinkles, or the ones you don't want to get.

then i put it in a plastic trash bin and carried it outside to release it. Her townhouse complex has been having issues with roof rats so i probably should have killed it but i didn't have the heart for it. Glue boards are quite popular but when they step on the board and can't get off they commonly rip their skin off trying to get away. Very gruesome. Not much stomach for that either. Guess i could have called one of her neighbors to see if they wanted to do the deed.

They have live-catch mouse traps. I use those and then let them go (away from my house) in the morning. I can't stand the blood/guts nor torturing.
