Anyone else find the Lunesta moth creepy??

Posted by Emily Elizabeth on July 28, 2005, at 23:21:53

Okay, this is probably the least meaningful post ever, but I saw the Lunesta commercial about 10 times tonight and I just don't understand the creepy glowing moth/butterfly thing. Really, is this a good marketing strategy? It makes me think of being attacked by radioactive bugs, not a pleasant sleep. Anyone agree??

Hi Emily Elizabeth,

I find most pharmaceutical company advertising offensive, if not downright unethical. I think there should be stricter regulations on advertising from the pharmaceutical industry.

It kind of reminded me of my childhood days living in the south- a room full of lightning bugs and moths flying around...

Nothing like that to rock you to sleep. LOL

Ahhh the peaceful sleep and while you're asleep that beautiful butterfly surrounds you with beauty. Then when you wake up oh! a perfect day. Why you've had such a wonderful sleep you could conquer the world. Butterflys are free to fly. The drug companies are getting out of hand. Children will want Lunesta so they'll see visions of butterflys in their little heads. Fondly, Phillipa

Yes..I agree with you completely! A treatment for insomnia, which is usually attatched to another psychiatric problem like depression or anxiety, should *not* be advertised like it is some 'undiscovered' cure for the masses! (e.g. they make it like, going to get Lunesta is like buying a multivitamin)
I remember my days (which I still do have) of deep, dark despair, and not being able to calm down at night due to overwhelming psychic angst and pain...where I just want to 'end it all'..or 'make it stop'...and a sleep med like Lunesta brought relief. Geezz...it's not something you just give someone who slep't in late on Saturday so they can go to bed early on Sunday! (IMHO..anyways..)

/rant...

Best, Jay :)

So, how do you feel about the Zoloft "blob" in the Zoloft television commercials -- that depressed little white bouncing dollop of whatever with a face on it? Just curious. Atticus

That guy just makes me feel bitter--if only a little Zoloft could fix my depression and make me into a happy, boucing ball! I also suspect that it gives people the wrong idea about how easily depression can be treated. But I guess that's why pharmaceutical companies are not begging me to run ad campaigns for them!
