Kittens!

Posted by Ilene on September 11, 2005, at 19:56:55

These are my new babies. We got them from the SPCA a week ago Saturday. The only one who's not happy is our old cat. She's 13, and wants to be Queen of the House. Brigid, the black and white one, is about two weeks older and more active. Orlando, the Siamese mix, naps more. They are settling in nicely, but we have to watch them, because they chew on wires, and Brigid got herself stuck on the top of a bookcase a couple of times. They like to play chase and go exploring.

Seven! Are you going to keep them all?

These babies came already spayed and neutered, thankfully. No unwed mothers around here.

They're strictly indoor kitties. My daughter wants to leash-train them, but she hasn't done anything about it.

How cute! Brigid looks just like my old cat did when he was really young. (Except maybe for his characteristic nose splotch, but I can't tell from the picture.)

They are so precious! I love cats. I have two of them. One of them is a Siamese mix who looked a lot like Orlando when she was a kitten but with brown points instead of blue.

Yea! Happy news! I loooove cats so much, my friends tease me for being the crazy cat lady. So, just a few quick ?'s:

1. What is the 13 y.o. cat's name?
2. How did you decide on the kittens' names?
3. Did you intend to end up with one kitten and end up with two? ;)

I think that will be sufficient for now. :) Thanks for posting their pix. It made me smile.

Best,
EE

The old cat is named Pearl. My then-six-year-old daughter and I named her. I was inspired to suggest a gem name due to a cat named Ruby whom my husband had before he met me. She's a black cat with a white locket, so it fits her well.

The names Brigid and Orlando were selected by the consensus of all four of us. I forget who suggested Brigid--maybe my daughter. She is both a goddess and a saint. (Brigid, *not* my daughter.) I suggested Orlando from a list of Shakespearean names.

We planned to get two so they would have a playmate. We wanted to get two from the same litter but ended up with these guys. We let the kids pick them. Their names at the SPCA were Brazil and Morton.

Hi Ilene,

I'm so glad that you decided to adopt those adorable kittens! What fun!
