Houston TX Evacuation - Hurricane Rita

Posted by rjlockhart98 on September 22, 2005, at 10:56:20

I dont know all the news about hurricane Rita.

But i have heard that evacuation is in progress. I dont know really all the facts. My aunt called this morning and she said the winds are blowing hard.

Well God, all those people from New Orlands... in the astrodome.

Dallas and Fort worth can take more but we will have to open many abandoned buildings and hosptitals. The maximum capacity is 25000 but where going to have to make it more. more like 75000.

Is hurricane Rita a catorey 5? if it is, where are smashed.

Dallas is suppost to get some of the blow from the storm but in North Texas i dont know if its really going to be anything.

Many hospitals like St. Joseph's and Old Parkland hostpital which where build in the 1920's may have to be opened, its old, electricty is old circuts are proably rusted.

Anyone from Texas please post. AuntieMel arnt you from houston? TexasChic i know you said you where from Dallas/Fort Worth area. I live near Fort Worth, tarrant county. Southlake area.

It sounds as if a fair number of people from Houston, Beaumont, and Galveston have evacuated, as well as southwest Louisiana. Traffic has been incredible along the evacuation routes.

My thoughts go out to everyone in that area, and I hope our Babble friends are safe and sound by now.

It seems like the track is moving a bit to the east, but it's hard to tell with these hurricanes.

I'm in the HEB area. Its a small world isn't it?

The evacuation from Houston sounds like a nightmare. But at least maybe there won't be so much death and human suffering like in New Orleans. I haven't heard anything about where they're putting up evacuees here except for the hotels (which are all full).

As far as us getting hit, everything I've seen says we'll be lucky to even get some rain out of this. So I think we're pretty safe on that count. The thing I'm worried about is Tornados! I've been lucky enough to not ever be in the direct path of one, although it has come very close (like the ones Downtown).

I wonder if this is the earth's way of getting back at us for doing so much damage. Nature has a way of getting rid of harmful pests.
