Going to work dressed as a she-devil. After that, gotta find something to do to avoid the hordes of candy-grubbing brats that throng to my neighborhood.

Hi Tabitha,
Which day will the candy-grubbing brats throng our neighborhoods? Is it Sunday or Monday?

to have it on 2 school nights.
I put our carved pumpkins out last night about 6:00 pm. The little turds had smashed them in the street by 8:30, before I even got back out to light them for the first time.
I'm now thinking about taking on the Soup Nazi's philosophy instead of handing out anything. I'll keep the light on, but open the door and yell, "No treat for you!"

Oh goodness, I've never known them to do it on a night other than Halloween, so I'm planning for Monday. G*d forbid there could be more than one night of it...

No kidding? Did they put a schedule in the paper for your town or something? Off-night parties are bad enough, but off-night trick or treating is just unacceptable!
Although I've had my decorations up since the 9th, but that's different...

I've never heard of having it 2 nights! That takes the fun out of it somehow.
Also, I blame the kids less than I blame their parents. No way I would have gotten away vandalizing the neighborhood w/o my parents knowing. AND even if I did end up doing something like that, heaven help me if they found out! I would have been too scared to even think of doing things like that!
(BTW, a total pet peeve of mine is when parents have kids in stores or restaurants and totally ignore them when they are making a mess or destroying things. Grrrrrrrrr!)
Of course this is easy for me to say, as it is pretty easy to keep my cats from smashing pumpkins. Talk to me in 15-10 yrs and I may have a different answer! ;)
Best,
EE

Hi Theresa,
Oh! That's terrible that they smashed your pumpkins! And it's particularly cruel because you had put all that effort into carving them. I've never understood how anyone could derive pleasure out of doing things like that.
If you have any pumpkins left, perhaps you can put them on the INSIDE of a window?

Hi Tabitha,
In several places I've lived over the years, trick-or-treaters showed up on a couple of nights. I agree with you -- G*d forbid!

I'd never heard of 2 nights for trick or treat either until we moved here. They actually do post the schedules in the paper. The town next to us is having theirs Sat and Mon 4:30-7 pm. I don't think those days are any better, but I would like the earlier hours.
We stay home and hand out candy one of the 2 nights. The kids actually have more fun doing that than going out themselves.
The whole 2 night thing kind of creeps me out-- why not 2 Chistmases or 2 Easters? In fact, why don't we have 3 Saturdays every weekend? LOL!
There is a small town N of here that has their 4th of July on the 3rd. I guess to attract more people to their festival, etc. But I always thought it strange.
My husband would like to have Christmas a couple of days late to save money, but that's a whole other rant I'll spare you from. ;~}
I did try to keep the pumkins in the house as long as I could stand it. But that rotten pumpkin scent is nothing like a pumpkin candle...
Thank goodness a teacher moved in next door. The kids are so busy tp-ing her house we haven't been hit. But I'm sure we will be.

Your hubby sounds like a practical guy! Why not have Christmas on Jan 15? Everything 1/2 off!
One good thing about Halloween here is there doesn't seem to be a vandalism tradition. I've never seen TP, eggs, corn, or soaped windows in the neighborhood. And my decorations have never been touched, although I don't put out the classic vandal-bait (fresh pumpkin).

I've been a witch many times. Not a real witch, just a lady in a cape and a fright-wig. It felt really different being decked out in head-to-toe red. An evil clown groveled at my feet, and I got some eyelash glue in my eye.

A real witch has too many rituals to the earth gods/godessess- too much responsibility for a sloth like me.
My duvet is my cape. Now in UK is freaky bleedin' firework night celebrating guy fawks...It'll be BANG! BANG! for days.
Kids eh.
My cat loves it though.
