Law and Order - Criminal Intent

Posted by Dinah on January 15, 2006, at 15:21:07

I've recently become obsessed. Does anyone else find the character of Det. Goren unbelievably sexy? That slight oddness, and those huge intuitive leaps really are enormous turnons for me.

Yet I also have the suspicion that the show is based on the old premise that madness and genius are very close. And I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I had a brief Vin. D'Onofrio crush, but not so much anymore. I think I gave him up for Mark Ruffalo. I get all those Law & Orders confused anyway.

Ok, I'll have to advertise my total out of touchness. I never see anything until it comes on daytime reruns. Who is Mark Ruffalo?

I think I still like the original Law & Order best as a show. Criminal Intent is a bit dark.

Still, it's been a while since I had a crush. Feels kind of nice. :)

Funny
I was at first particularly drawn to his character.. and about 3 episodes later his intuitive leaps seemed to me like gratingly bad writing. He irritated me so much I couldn't stand to watch him anymore, even if I was very bored.

Kind of like marriage a little? Maybe
From what I hear

I hope I haven't gone and ruined it for you.
Not because I think my opinion ways so heavily.
But somehow.. when someone mentions these things they tend to insidiously alter your own perception, I find anyway.

I remember when I said to my friend "I actually don't mind the light mayonnaise"
And she said "oh I don't like it at all.. it's too vinegary or something"
And of course now all I can taste is the vinegar.

It's like that expression "Art and Beauty (and mayonnaise) are never the same once questioned"

How About ER?

I don't watch Law and Order but love ER. Have a crush on Kovach anyone else? Not trying to hyjack Dinah's Thread just throwing in another show. Fondly, Phillipa

lol. Now you've got me wanting to try light mayo. I can never imagine anything tasting too vinegary. :)

No, I do understand what you mean. It's not attention to detail, like Monk. It's just this out of the blue stuff that everyone buys at face value. When you'd at least think it would be met with skepticism (like Mulder on X Files). And I don't even want to think about the legal realism.

Maybe I'm in the mood for prescience. (Is that the right word?)

I haven't managed to watch it in a few years. I never seem to manage to watch TV during primetime, but I pick stuff up on TNT or some other cable channel.

I always thought Dr. Greene was the cutest doctor. But then again, I'm kind of weird.

But Julianna Marguilies (sp?)? She was fabulously gorgeous.

In fact, that probably is it. I am also fascinated by House. Though I don't find him terribly attractive. (I can't erase the memory of his roles on Blackadder.)

Pernicious button!

It is the attention to detail, you're right.
He's not met with skepticism, and he's *never* wrong. It's too on the nose..

Did you know that Hugh Laurie (aka House) played the dad in the movie Stuart Little?!?! It cracks me up.

BTW, I love all of the Law and Orders, ER, House, and Gray's Anatomy. Imagine what a TV junkie I would be if I had cable!

Best,
EE

Mark Ruffalo is more a movie actor than TV. He was in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, In the Cut, and some indie thing where he was married to Laura Dern and having an affair with Naomi Watts. Not sure why I associate him with D'Onofrio-- they both have dark curly hair I guess, but Ruffalo is shorter and darker in complexion. I guess they both have intelligence as part of their sex appeal.

I can't agree with you on Dr Greene, but Juliana Marguilies (sp?) definitely. Hate it when she straigtens her hair. Yet it's her face that's so stunning, even though I love the curly hair too.

Ah, m-o-v-i-e-s. Yes, I think I remember those. You go to a big dark place and watch TV on a great big screen? And they don't necessarily have computer animation or superheroes or jedi in them?

Like primteime TV it seems a distant dream. :)

I think I see a trend here. With a few notable exceptions, I find men more attractive if they aren't conventionally handsome. But women more attractive if they are.

Which is sort of a shame, when you think about it. Because I might be more self accepting if it were the other way around.

He's hilarious. I look at the Prince Regent in Blackadder III and can't see House at all in him. But I think I can see the Prince Regent in House. :)

No comprende. Movies are those things that arrive in the mailbox in the red Netflix envelopes that I watch in bed on my computer on a screen that only seems big because I'm about a foot away from it.

I could argue that. If you look at the lists of Hot Women that are on the hollywood gossip shows or Maxim magazine type of lists, I'll bet you'd find many of them as bland and uninteresting as I do. Jessica Simpson comes to mind. Jessica Alba. Bleah.

I feel just like you do, Dinah. I didn't even know about "Law and Order" until I saw some re-runs of it on TNT recently. I couldn't take my eyes off him, either. I missed him when he wasn't in a scene! I love how odd and jerky his arm motions are- and his face fascinates me. So I vote with you!

I've never heard him talk in his British accent. I only discovered him on House (which I love). I'm not normally attracted to older men, but I find him so-o-o sexy! O-o-o-oh, and to think of adding an accent to that! I may bloody well faint! I love British accents!!!

i watch CI whenever i can, and it's NOT the same when his character isn't in an episode. just discovered house, and i like that show too, though i'm not much of a tv watcher as a rule. ER at least use to to good (yeah, i like dr. green too), and i like crossing jordan. just about everything else i watch is on discovery, tlc or similar channels. (by the way, any women out there still root for sean connery? i'll take him any day!)

My husband and I were talking about this the other day. Between cable channels and TIVO and DVD sets, we end up watching those things we already know we like and dont' learn that much about new shows unless someone recommends them.

Or unless they happen to come on a cable channel we are watching something else on, and are too lazy to change the channel.

That's how I found Criminal Intent. :)

Maybe his character is sort of what a magically good therapist would be like, and that's why I find it attractive.
