May 1-7, 2006, will be the United States' fourth annual “Cover the Uninsured Week” to raise awareness about our growing health insurance problem and encourage action to fix it. (Sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.)
The U.S. government estimates that nearly 46 million Americans — 15.7% of the population — lack health insurance coverage OF ANY KIND for the entire period of any given year. Other research shows that tens of millions more Americans go without health coverage for shorter periods of time.
