Toronto bomb plot (*trig*)

Posted by pseudoname on June 3, 2006, at 13:42:48

I thought about this sort of thing before I left for Babblefest.

“Police refused to say what the terror suspects considered targets, although officials ruled out the Toronto Transit Commission — a public transit system that includes buses, subways and streetcars. A report in a Toronto newspaper citing sources said a CSIS building in downtown Toronto near the CN Tower as a target as well the Parliament buildings and a smattering of other high-profile, heavily populated areas…”

Like the Metro Toronto Convention Centre?

When I visited London as a kid, a bomb went off in the Tube. The day after I saw the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, a bomb killed several of them.

I know you're feeling similarities, but you must also contrast. We are safe, this time.

You wouldn't know this, but we have been at heightened security for a while, in Toronto. Of course, they couldn't give details, because they couldn't give details. I'm sure they were simply waiting for that.....details. And just like that! <snapping of fingers>, a sweep was underway!

We are safe. From them. From you. <wink>

I haven't disclosed my feelings then or now.

So true. And I withdraw, to rest anew.

Yes...similarities...but we all can't just get worked up and freaked out and scared. Canada is a giant country with a small population. As far as targetting the CN Tower goes, yes it's the worlds largest free standing structure, but it only holds a rather small amount of people during regular operating hours.(I'm just putting this in perspective.) The news media have pumped this up and gone after it to sell papers. Yes, it's important, but all of this very LOADED language..."terrorism" "cells", etc, I think gives people a disproportionate idea of the 'critical mass' of all this. I've got enough damn problems getting out of bed in the morning, then to play cops and robbers which, from a Law Prof from U of T in Toronto sent me in an email, said many of these charges may not stick because of violation of Charter of Rights and Freedom sections. Sorry...thats my rant...out..

....and eat buttertarts!

Are you freaked? I think you live in Toronto? I live an hour north of it. I'm not freaked. I wouldn't feel freaked if I went to Toronto today. Why don't I feel freaked?? Am I weird? Am I an ostrich with my head in the sand?

I live in Millbrook. Over near but not quite to Peterborough.

I just came from Toronto, just now. No freakage going on. Just like regular. I found a new Chinese bakery. Opening specials included all sorts of baked savoury treats, like barbecue pork in a sweet bun. Any flavour, 3 for a buck. I do not underexaggerate. 3/$1.

Toronto was just all fine today.

Except it had Babblers memories hanging off certain street corners and stuff.

Maybe the rain will wash that away, but I don't think so. I think they are indelible.

I couldn't eat all of my $2 selection of sweet buns.

No butter tarts. :-(

I shall have to substitute Decadent chocolate chip cookies.

I was with my brother-in-law yesterday and I asked him how he liked the buttertarts I left at their house (they weren't home) on my way back from Toronto.

He said, "What are buttertarts?"

It turned out that my sister ate ALL of them herself! She didn't even give hubby or son a taste.

She hadn't even *told* them about your gift.

I think I might start a buttertart export company.

I'm pretty sure Pfizer and Merck would lobby against letting anybody bring those things across the border. Their AD sales would never recover.
;-)

But seriously, I'd go to trucker school just to be a part of that.
