lets take some positive action

Posted by dave45 on June 23, 2006, at 1:11:41

Something occurred to me today. Too often on this board, we hear of ignorant, patronizing, or otherwise bad psychiatrists. There are alot of good psychiatrists out there but as I think we all have experienced at some point, there are alot of bad ones.
We often talk as though we were powerless to do anything about this. We however, are ultimately the consumers and the ones who provide psychiatrists with their money. And as consumers, we have the power to regulate the industry with our "purchasing" decisions.
I propose we begin a list of bad psychiatrists. We could make this list available via the internet so that people knew who was respectful, informed, and flexible, and who was not. It could be a rating type of site in which people could rate their doctors on different criteria and an average of that doctors rating would be shown, sort of like "remedyfind."
We could make a positive impact, even if its only a first step. Any body with me on this?

It's an awesome idea. Who could set up the website and do the administration is the tough part though. It would take some financing to put it together, keep it running, and do some advertising to get known. It would have to somehow gather information from a larger audience than just pbabble to be of any effectiveness. It would have to be at least like remedyfind but preferably bigger and even more popular. There are so many cities and so many doctors.

Well, I guess a first step is finding somebody who has some experience at website design. I have some friends but... I haven't exactly told them abotu my depression. I am sure there is somebody on this board who has some experience with that. I have some free time on my hands and would be willing to work on it. To Phillipa, I found a lot of the type of websites you mentioned, however I couldn't find one that waqs specific to p-docs. What I was envisioning would be specific to p-docs and should probbably be broken down by state or region. No doubt, it would be a large task. However, i think there are a number of websites who offer free hosting space, for example sites like myspace and wikis. I'm not really "computer-fluent" and I think to proceed further we probably need the input of someone who is.
