I'm not a New Yorker, but I wondered the same thing as you. I thought it was a horrible thing to make a profit off of....
But I read some of the reviews and it's the story of two people trapped under the rubble and the firefighters and police who wouldn't stop until they rescued them. Based on the true story of two people. Nicolas Cage, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and some other big names are in the movie. I *hope* they wouldn't do something like this movie unless they saw true value in telling the story this way....
That being said, I don't know if I can go see it, and I see almost *every* movie that comes out!

thanks for the info about the story
I just saw the commercial a couple of minutes ago, and I thought "what the??!..."I'll probably be 80 in a nursing home one day and I still won't be able to think about it.
I remember years ago when I was working in one, and I would lead discussions about the times that the residents had lived through, like WWII - they never forgot how hard it had been.I don't know why I thought of that..I guess there are things you never forget.

The pain of that day is unfathomable. I think it's natural to remember where you were, what you were doing, what you felt.....my mother does that with the day JFK was assassinated. She will never forget.

I can't handle it either. That or the one about the plane that the passengers brought down. Its just too soon and raw. I know what happened - I don't want to 'experience' it.

They just released the most likely places this could happen again. Oh course NYC was there and so was Charlotte,NC cause of the banking. Most of the headquarters are here. Love Phillipa
