Some bad things are happening on a Usenet group I belong to and I'm getting so upset, I even thought of killing myself.
I think, "that will show them." Is my thinking screwed up or what?
I think if I killed myself, that will be proof I wasn't a troll.
I'm so very upset. Cognitive therapy isn't working right now. Nothing I'm thinking makes rational sense.

Just being on Babble helps. I should stay away from Usenet.
I have to soothe myself. I'm going to think of school, of Babble friends and Dr. Bob.
:-(
I'm starting to think now that Babble friends don't care about me. :-(

Thanks for the hug, that showed me you care. Sometimes I really need to see that. Sometimes my thoughts don't make sense.

Definitely. Usenet is so ... so ... 1979.
I mean, even Matt's Script Archive (where Babbleland's code originally came from, tho Dr. B has made dozens of changes) is so 1995. Maybe even 1994.
I'm so glad Babble hasn't been ported to some phpBoardclone. It has a WWW old-fashionedness that is oddly comforting in and of itself.

(((Deneb))) it took me a long time to accept that there are places where I feel safest and the most "belonging to". And other places just aren't for me.

OK, can you point out the good things you've learned from this incident?
1. You recognize that you've fallen into an old pattern.
2. You recognize the distortion in your thinking.
3. You recognize that the CBT skills you're trying to learn aren't working for you right now.
4. You recognize that there are better places for you to be, places where you feel safer.
5. You came to Babble to help feel safer again -- that's part of self-soothing, you know, so we'll call that a positive.
OK, now come a little closer so I can {smack} you again! You know that joke, "Doctor, it hurts when I do this/So don't do this!" Guess what? "Fellow Babblers, I get upset when I go to this Usenet group..." Extrapolate.
Can you identify what it is that leads you to feel you have to prove you're not a troll? Might be worth the effort.
My guess, without having any clue where this group is, is that maybe someone there remembers early posts of yours, before you made so much progress, and any accusations of trolling are based on those older posts, not something current. If that's the case, then recognize the fallacy in someone else's thinking, too.
Now go study.

I have this problem of wanting everyone to like me. I have to accept that not everyone will.

No, I haven't done that yet. I keep procrastinating.
Thanks Paul

I did do better this time around, didn't I? I recognized my thought distortions. I just have to practice replacing them with rational thoughts.

LOL, thanks for the smack. I needed that.

If that's the case, then recognize the fallacy in someone else's thinking, too.To be fair, I think I see how I might have been annoying other people. People were being very supportive at first and gave me lots of advice, but I didn't follow that advice so they all got frustrated. I don't think everyone there thinks I'm a troll, but I do know that I upset a lot of people. I know though, that *I* cannot upset another person. Only that person can upset themselves. It's the same for me. Other people don't make me upset, being upset is my own reaction to my own thoughts. Other people don't know this, so they all think I made them frustrated.

Hi Deneb,
Usenet is the real world. It is often wild and uncivil. But i like the way it is, because they tend to employ the right words for the true things, straight to the point. We've got to be strong and balanced to enjoy this place without fear or anger.
But it could be a trigger for some, as you learned it recently. Better to stay here for a while and relax.
Be well.
