Today is... The birthday of the second day of a conference that was held at MIT on September 11 1954 (I think 1954).That conference was the start of cognitive science.
:-)
And the reign of behaviourism was over.Notable papers include:
Miller's magical number 7 (thats why telephone numbers are 7 digits long)
Chomsky... Something on superrules I guess...
Yeah, his critique of behaviourist accounts of language acquisition (poverty of the stimulus arguments)
Minsky on something or other (to do with artificial intelligence) and so forth.I think that typically they do something to commemorate... But I appreciate that September 11 has a new meaning now...
