So thankfulness is a feeling that arises or does not?
In some moods you're not thankful for anything.
There are currently quite a few things I should be thankful for, but it's not the same.
Gratitude is grace and I'm out of the loop.

OK, something arose.
I'm going to see "Borat" with my son and his gf today.
I suppose that took 15 minutes, so things only arise slowly round here.

I would pay $10 to have this movie erased from my memory and my 2 hours back ($10 on top of the $8 I paid to get into the theater). That makes this movie unique among all movies I have seen.

That is the truth. If someone were to ask what I am thankful for, I could list a hundred things, and all true.
Yet I still want to just curl up and go to sleep and never wake up. How grateful is that really?

Well, I'm a *little* bit grateful to you for saying that.
Can that count?

> Yet I still want to just curl up and go to sleep and never wake up. How grateful is that really?
And if someone lived to be 100 and honestly could say they were grateful for every single day, that would be 36,525 things for which to be grateful. If that person all the same wanted to sleep and not wake up, would that diminish the meaning of all those points of gratitude.
Our society has this perverse notion that you need to respond in kind whenever you are given a gift. A gift not given freely is not a gift, and gratitude felt with some encumbrance of a response in kind is not gratitude.
I'm grateful for my Beast. Maybe I can be that way because we've "come to an understanding" of sorts -- I have it on a leash, but it has me as well. But I know I would not be who I am today without it. Maybe without it I would have turned out to be as "good" or "better" than I am today; who knows?
I don't care, personally.
I don't trust my own opinion of myself, but counting the votes of those I care for in my life, I must be doing something right. Realizing that those who love me are perhaps a better mirror for me than the one on my bathroom wall? Yet another thing for which I am grateful.

Sounds like when I went to see Eraserhead stone cold sober. I would advise against it.

For me the feeling of gratitude is hard to tell from the feeling of hope. It comes to me and everything feels OK. And other times that's not the case.

Thanks for that, FLB.I can't remember if I was sober when I saw Eraserhead. Perhaps not. We see Borat this afternoon.

I do miss those days too.
Hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving.

Yes indeed. I bought my first VCR because school inconveniently got in the way of my watching.
I can't recall whether I liked the initial summer on the run from Frank Smith or the incredibly silly Ice Princess story better.
I have this vague memory of taking a totally impossible final exam, thinking I'd never figure out the twisted questions and just answering every question with my first guess so I could race home and see General Hospital after only half the exam time passed. (And getting the only "A" in the class. Apparently thinking about the questions just messed you up.)
I've still got part of the Ice Princess caper on fuzzy, out of synch, tape. It's one of my prized possessions. lol.
That was such a happy time in my life that watching it can make me happy almost automatically.

personally, I think the ice princess saga was some of the best television ever produced. I wish they would re-run it on TV land or something. I would watch it again in a second.
I even named one of my cats Max after one of the cassadines.
now it seems that i just can't quit watching these murder/death forensic shows.
I miss general hospital.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, Karen. I kinda liked it. That was from the reviews. I did feel a little tired, perhaps a tad manipulated, perhaps a skerric of something unhealthy, but all in all it was family fun.
What I want to find, but cannot, is where he, as Ali G, interviews Dick Cheney. From some years ago.

the beginning was ok (even laughed a few times when he pulled the chicken out). and the scene with the church people (that's right isn't it? they were church members, weren't they?). but, i felt soon after it was just ridiculous. )and i did like the dr's ed instructor) i guess the rest of it was jsut too much. (and when they were running around naked, yuck! i didn't find it funny, just gross. i don't ever want to see naked people that close up again unless it's hugh jackman that's naked.

In the naked running around scene, did you guys notice how Borat's black rectangle was often very long, like down to his knees?
I think I had a dream about his relative, the autism expert, Simon Baron-Cohen, last night. In my dream I had a book by Simon, and he was very young, 25 years old.
He was already a world-reknowned expert, and I felt like a miserable loser because I'm still ABD. Yikes. And he had nice curly hair.
I enjoyed the scene when he sang at the Rodeo. My husband has memorized Borat's National Anthem. Being in the military, he has plenty of opportunity to show his "patriotism" lol
