Not a good evening, all in all.
heard some bad news.
Was trying to figure out a response.
then I saw it. little dark mousie... running across my living room, only 3 feet away.
of course I screamed. I'm terrified of "creatures".
After establishing that I was not going to have a panic attack, I ran to my bed, and read the LLBEAN catalog until I realized that I would have to emerge at some point to empty my bladder. I stomped to the bathroom, and managed to pee without my feet touching the floor.
after another hour, I needed food (I was afraid the mousie might feel like dining at the exact same time)
I had husband on the phone with me, as he heard me squeeling and stomping to the kitchen, grabbing 2 protein bars and a glass of H2O and back to the room.
getting pretty agitated. found the flashlight. managed to summon the courage to grab my laptop and hook up the 25 foot internet cord.
Safe *whew* in my bed now. I'm an exile.
tomorrow I'm going to the hardware store to get steel wool to plug the little gap- I know which one, I think. And traps. I'm so sorry, but I cannot have "creatures" in my home.
((((mousie))))
:O!

LOL! Well it isn't my fault! ;-) What is funny is that the same thing is happening in my house at the moment! My cat caught 2 so far,and I went into my baking supply and they ate all my coloring gel, right through the plastic tubes. I probably have multi-colored turds all over the place . I just hope I don't mistake them for sprinkles. LOL
Anyone for cookies? LOL
What kind of traps? If you use deet, plug up the holes a few days later, so they can get out of the house (to seek water) and die outside instead of in the house. I am getting some at the store today. ;-)

I would definately get a cat - one that is a good mouser.
Which, I admit, can be a little hard to find.
Currently I have two house cats. One, a mouse could walk up to it, eat its food and start nibbling its whiskers and it would just sit there purring.
The other, however, is a super mouser. You can just see the wildness in his eyes.

Last year right around this time I had a mouse problem too! BUT it was in my BEDROOM. I was too scared to move anything so I got one of my guy friends to go investigating and he found mousie evidence. It was right before I left res for the Christmas break so I didn't want to use a mouse trap. I couldn't stand the idea of coming back to a dead mouse. And being on the second floor how did it get up there? I can just imagine it taking the elevator up :P I don't know what happened to it, but it eventually went away.
I hope yours will go away too Ll. GOod luck!

Hi Li,
About a year ago I saw one of the cats run across the living room with what looked like a toy mouse. Only when she dropped it, the toy mouse started running away. Being a cat, she just kept playing with it. My husband finally caught it and put it outside, where unfortunately it ran directly into one of the other cats who took care of the mouse problem.

I'm very tempted to get a kitty, but I already have one (she lives with my long-distance husband) and I travel a LOT (to visit the cat, of course lol)
Fluffily cat would have had SO much fun with a little mouse.
3 years ago I thought I saw a 'creature' so we filled all the holes at that time. but I know where the new hole is (90% sure).
1) shopping list
-foam filler
-steel wool
-haveaheart traps
-seroquel2) cleaning binge
-trash bye bye
-mopping and moving fridge and stove to get all the crumbs in the kitchen
-vacuum, vacuum, vacuum
-empty cabinets for evidence of infestation
-notify landlord (we have quarterly pest control for free)3) deciding what to do with a mouse that I have trapped. Having a live mouse presents unique opportunities to be 'uncivil'. any ideas? (*wicked grin*)

We have some go into our attic sometimes, and I absolutely refuse to believe that there's no way to seal a house off from the little (or in our case not so little) critters.
Yet the exterminator seems unable to come up with ideas. I just don't get that. A house is a building. It has an envelope. There are a few places where there are holes in the envelope, the bath trap, around the kitchen sink. I can't believe they haven't come up with some way to put something in those holes that can be removed when plumbing needs to done, but that keeps out filthy disgusting rats. (no offense to rat lovers)
We've got traps in the attic, and the exterminator comes and occasionally removes one. But that's just not good enough.
Our attic smells. :((((((( And I want to put up some energy efficient roof lining up there, and what's the point if rats are going to come eat it?
Since I wouldn't want to lock a cat or terrier in the attic, ratters just won't work.
One saw me once as he sauntered under the neighbor's house. He stared at me with the most insolent stare before turning and going on his way.

good news all,
I have cleaned my place about 90% clean, and found no further traces of murine activity.that means the mousie was just investigating, saw me, we screemed EEEEEeeeeK! at each other and ran away to our holes.
we're really not all that different, mousie and me.
except that I love cats.
I'm going to finish the other 10% of cleaning, including inspecting kitchen cabinets and closets for evidence.
I never had a resident mouse before, what is the evidence? poopies, and gnaw marks, and nests of fluff?
best,
-llp.s. forgot to bring my purse to the hardware store to PAY for the mousie supplies. damn. oh well. I felt confident enough after cleaning that I spent the evening in the livingroom (but still not that corner where my computer desk is. thank GOD for laptops.
This is the end of the thread.
