Annoying Holiday Card inserts?

Posted by Farkus on December 9, 2006, at 8:12:15

Does anyone else feel annoyed when receiving a Year in Review letter in 8 point font along with holiday cards? It was a trend some years ago and died down but I still get a few every year.

These are the same people who send their Dear Diary sites addresses on the internet so I can enjoy their life, intermost thoughts, colonscopy results, what they ate for dinner on any given night, favorite toilet tissue brand and assorted important tidbits all year long.

Most of the time a simple "happy holidays" is more than sufficient.

Yes!!

or keep it to a few concise points and lines.

"Been an alright year. The baby got teeth. The goats are fine but the liamas don't like the cold weather. Happy Holidays" :)

I kind of like them. Especially the really honest ones, where people are careful to put whatever happened in the nicest possible way.

So many of our friends are far flung, and often this is the best chance to find out how they're getting along.

I have a few you can have ;)

I AM wondering why it annoys me so. I'm also funny and disinterested about looking at other's photos, like when someone brings in the stacks and stacks of vacation pics. After about 8 photos, I just as soon hand them back as keep up the un huhs and that's nices. To my credit, I believe in fair play turnabout, I don't think people are THAT interested in my life experiences either. I guess I'm just strange that way.

Vacation photos are totally different. If someone wants to show me their kids with Mickey Mouse, one or two photos will give me the idea. :)

Hi Farkus,

I don't read them, except one that is complete fiction that a friend sends every year. I can't wait to find out if Cindy Lu had twins again this year, she got the award at her high school for most kids last year.

Farkus, this one was entered in a contest for the best Christmas letter EVER......I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I'd like to meet this woman!!!!!!!

My mother last year decided that she would tactfully degrade those who feel it is necessary to write "brag" letters. She decided last year to sit down and discuss our immediately family in depth. The letter started with the fact that she was sitting in front of the fireplace drinking a bottle of wine. I quote, "Tis the season to drink straight from the bottle." She proceeded to talk about her new Lexus that she took out a 7-year note on and if she was lucky she would make the first payment within 90 days of its due date. From there she talked about how thankful she was to have refinanced her home to pull all of the cash out to stock up on the vodka she would need to survive the holiday season. From there she spoke of her children as though we were "objects of her affection." She talked about me and how I was a mortgage broker and how she couldn't help but question if I was that or just someone trafficking in illegal substances. If that was the case she was hoping I would be so kind as to give her a discount. Then there was my sister who proceeded to climb the corporate ladder. She was so grateful one of her children took the right avenue in life and was sleeping her way to the top. From there it was off to my brother who "God love him" is still remodeling his trailer for him and his girlfriend and the five children that they had out of wedlock. To this she added that "I really hope they have a couple more of those things they can not afford." Along with this she reminded everyone that she just refinanced to buy the alcohol and she wouldn't be able to pull more cash out for another six months or so. All and all it was a huge hit with our immediately family. Pertaining to our extended family this didn't go over so well. Last year it wasn't necessary to attend any Christmas functions and I along with my siblings are encouraging a letter equally as offensive this year. Happy Holidays! _______ Seattle

i wrote one about my pets one time. it was AWFUL. awfully funny too. and i quit getting about 50% of those letters that i had been receiving every year.

i had one of my little dogs teaching a cheerleading camp in Tyler, Texas and my oldest dog co-wrote a book with Miss Manners. oh.......i covered it all. :-)

how much it had snowed in the village where i lived but it didn't snow in MY driveway......i wish i had kept a copy of it......pat

Happy Mr Aardvark

I bought a card recently which I liked. It went
"Happy Mr Aardvark, pleased with being first in the dictionary, sends you strong good wishes".
There was a kids drawing of an aardvark grinning on the front.
