Anyone own an inexpensive sewing machine? As in maybe $130 or so max? I see Walmart sells some for as low as around $75...
I'm planning to buy one soon and dont know what to choose. I'm not a big-time seamstress, and dont know much (nor care that much) about the extra special crazy things it can do. I just want it to work consistently with fairly "normal" fabric - cottons, flannels, whatever.Any suggestions, recommendations or things not recommended?
My mother gave me her mothers old sewing machine recently. It's a Singer and supposedly very good/expensive, but also very, very old. Lots of crazy details and it's just beyond me. Honestly I've been on the verge of a breakdown now for about 20 min trying to thread the darn thing, and I just cant do it. I dont get it. And I HAVE threaded machines before! This one is just beyond me.
So in the essence of immediate gratification (or whatever) and not solving problems the right way, I'm buying a new, simpler one. Hah. Maybe it's my "congrats on a new job" gift to myself. (More likely, that's just a handy excuse).

Wish I could help here, sadly my inner upholsterer as never been allowed to bloom - I just cannot operate one of those darn machines. I've been shown countless times. I wish I could do it!
Best of luck with your purchase.

I cant really sew either and dont know what I'll make, but when has logical reasoning stopped me before?
I've done a little very basic costume sewing for my ballet studios shows, and I know how to work the thing, but I really dont NEED it. I was on a cross-stitching kick for awhile and I'm sort of burnt out on it, so this is my newest idea. I wish I could draw or paint or something, because I love artsy stuff, but it's just not a talent I have lol.
When I get depressed, I buy things I dont need. That seems to be happening now. Oh well.. at least it's not new cars, right?
This is the end of the thread.
