Lucid dreams

Posted by Deneb on March 26, 2007, at 1:13:31

Anyone have them? I find I have them quite a bit. When I go to sleep after sleeping and waking up I usually have some lucid dreams.

I had one today. It was pretty cool. I knew it was a dream because words didn't make sense in my dream. For example, I have a can of diet Pepsi on my desk. I can read that it says "diet Pepsi" and it makes sense so I know I'm not in a dream. In my dream the words wouldn't make any sense. It'll be detzae pleakcsew or something like that.

In my dream I also knew it was a dream because I rolled off the bed and hit the floor and didn't feel any impact.

Sometimes I fly in my lucid dreams. It's really fun. Sometimes it's dark and scary but I'm not scared because I know it is a dream.

I used to have lucid dreams about every night. They are so weird. Alot of the time I would dream about getting out of bed, so I thought it was real. I'd crawl out my bedroom window, and fly off the roof. Feeling everything I'd do in my dream.

Once I had a dream I was a soul. Invisible. It was fall outside, very windy and dark skys. I floated around like a dead leaf with the wind. Whirling and whirling.

Boggles the mind!

When I started psych med (18) they did pretty much go away. Especially with seroquel (21). I kind of miss them. I had a dream journal, and wrote alot of them down.

Now I still have a journal, and write the non-lucid dreams down if they leave an impact on me through out the day.

I sort of have a superstition that if I write them down, and if I get dejavu, I can look them up to see if I had a premonition.

I have lucid dreams most every night before I fall completely asleep.

I will fall like halfway asleep and my mind will have all these weird and very creative thoughts. It's really weird. Rarely ever scary actually, just weird.

I have a lot of "false awakenings", where I'll dream that I get out of bed. Once in a while I freak out a bit because I want to wake up and can't. I have to learn to be OK with the dream.

I don't have a great ability to control my lucid dreams. Anyone have that ability?

I just read some stuff about lucid dreaming and one way to prolong them is to spin around and around in the dream. If I ever remember this in a dream I'll try it. Spinning also frequently changes the setting of the dream. There is something about thinking of spinning that prevents the brain from waking up.

People can learn to lucid dream through several techniques. One technique is to sleep for 5 hours, wake up for an hour and then take a nap. I find this method works for me. I usually lucid dream after awakening and going back to sleep.

There are also devices people can wear over their eyes that sense REM sleep and flash some lights at the right time to induce lucid dreaming.

One way to learn how to lucid dream is to keep a dream diary. Remembering dreams is good practice for lucid dreaming. Also, it's good to preform "reality checks" in the real world frequently so you get into the habit of it and so you do it in a dream too. When the reality check fails in the dream, you'll realize you're dreaming. One reality check is to read some words, look away and read the words again. If the words stay the same, you're probably in the real world, but in dreams the words usually change or don't make sense. I used this words technique without knowing about it.
