My cats know I'm not feeling well. They keep hanging around me, all concerned. I wasn't aware that I was exhibiting behaviors that would give that away (ooooh I try to appear as normal as possible).
I think my cats are better diagnosers than pdocs. If only they had better medicine. (Sorry, scratching your belly isn't going to bring me out of this funk.)

During a very bad bout with depression, my dog would just stare at me and if I was crying she would really come in close to me and snuggle, sometimes would cry too. Yes, they know much more about our feeling than many doctors do. Someday perhaps they will be the ones that diagnose us. It might be an improvement but we still need the people to give us the scripts, unless a pawprint will work...But their prescriptionwould be more natural, like stretching exercises, sweets, hugs...not a bad idea if it worked...SG

> -BonnieI feel the same way about my dog. If i'm have a particularly rough spell of depression, she'll curl up next to me and put her head on my chest.
Also, every morning, as soon as I say "good morning Katy." to her, she'll jump from the end of my bed to right on top of me and cover my face in kisses.God, I love her. :)

They are great communicators even though they don't speak in words. Their eyes and their kisses tell you they are there for you.
I have a new "foster' doggie who was abandoned after he was bitten by his family's other dog. So they took him to the vet and said you can keep him because, as I was told, they wouldn't or couldn't afford the surgery to repair the wound. The organization I volunteer with is picking up the tab and I am nursing him back to health. But he is an awesome dog, much like my female, but not as sweet, since he went through this trauma and is still adjusting to life with us.
But it makes for lots of activity after just one dog. They play so good together, lots of energy, no depression there. I'm sure the playing is key to their happiness.
