Hello,
I’m off for the week to Plum Island. DH and I are celebrating our 20th anniversary on the 17th.
We are packing our bikes, bionocs and parking our butts as close to the passerines as possible.
see you next week!
xoxo

why'd ya move?
We had a glorious time. Seasoned birders said they hadn't seen a week like this since 1985. I saw over one hundred and twenty species of birds. It was just glorious.

The island is in Massachusetts on the coast.
the weather was hot, cold and rainy. Wild times on the coast.
The ocean pounded the sand. The birds flooded in and ate lots of bugs and larvae. The Scarlet Tanager looked dazed as he dazzled our eyes with his red body and black wings.
it was good Phillipa.

> why'd ya move? Why, indeed. I think we were officially evicted out that particular apartment cottage, one of several downgrades in our lifestyles from 1996 until the inevitable separation and divorce in 1999. What a bunch of bittersweet memories to have of that entire coast and all of Cape Ann. I would go on very long walks on trails and along the beaches, trying to let the wind whip some sense between my ears.
I went back once to make sure that the ghosts had gone. Wee wisps remain, but nothing that caused the old panic and fear that the era once had for me.
I loveed Newburyport and its coffee and bookshop; Rowley and its excellent weekend flea market, Ipswich Pub with the best lobster roll around! Essex, with its grand antique stores and fried whole belly clams!, and on to Gloucester, the jewel in the necklace of north coastal towns. Urban and old fashioned and run down with great music and the best whale watching boats along the whole coast.
Yes, I miss it there, so. And I so understand that I can't go back but for a minute's visit. But I'm glad it's there for us all.
