What is a Gink?

Posted by Quintal on October 3, 2007, at 19:47:03

I was reading in the paper where a TV critic in The Sun described Billie Piper as 'ginkish' the other day. http://www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire/content/images/2006/10/24/billie_piper_1_470x353_353x470.jpg

I'm just wondering what it means? Any ideas? I was thinking maybe it had something to do with the Christmas Grinch?

gink (giŋk)

noun

Slang a man or boy, esp. one seen as odd

Etymology: < ? dial. gink, a trick (> Scot ginkie, term of reproach applied to a woman)

That's from http://www.yourdictionary.com/gink

Hope that helps. Also, there's a stats related site I just read about in New Scientist, which I was going to post to you. I think it might have been chance.dartmouth.edu, but I can't find the issue it was in. It's probably worth a look, though, if you're still looking for info on stats.

That's the link. It's a statistics wiki! Enjoy.

Thank you Racer. Yes, that would make sense - it was a Scottish journalist who wrote it. I suppose the Christmas Grinch link was most likely a co-incidence then.

I got "Statistics Without Tears" and "How to Lie With Statistics" but by the time they came I'd lost interest in what I was doing. I still have that homeopathy article to finish, but I don't suppose it'll ever get done now.
