Anyone have Tivo?

Posted by Racer on October 26, 2007, at 13:20:20

Does anyone here have Tivo? If so, have you had any trouble lately?

I love my Tivo. But the latest software download seems to have screwed our box. Has anyone else had this trouble? It'll suddenly freeze, and have to be rebooted. Sometimes it reboots itself, but often we have to unplug the machine entirely.

The worst part? It is freezing too often for me to record the things that I've got saved! I can't even rescue my precious movies!

Poet will understand my pain -- I've got "Sylvia Scarlet" on there, fer criminy's sake!

I haven't had that sort of trouble. My new box is a dual recorder high def, and I notice that the voices get out of alignment with the picture if I leave it on one channel too long, but other than that, no.

It is basically a hard drive though. Maybe your hard drive is getting buggy?

Mr X spoke with the Tivo support people, and they said that they were getting zillions of calls since the latest software download, that it was basically hosing machines. I was wondering if anyone else had that problem here.

By the way, is that the machine where you plug in a cable card, and then don't need a cable box? I really want one of those...

Yep, that's the one. The budget version of it that they put out later than the one with all the bells and whistles. It's nice to not have a cable box.

I really love it, except for that one teensy (grin) problem. But if you have one that doesn't get out of alliance, you might be better off until they fix that.

I do know they put in an upgrade, because we can now network this one to the other, which we couldn't do a week or two ago. It hasn't caused any problems though.
