One of my guinea pigs passed.
They are so small - usually to be missed by most - and not long for this world it would seem.
But I knew him. His little light made me a little brighter.
He will be missed.

First, I love the title of this post. It really made me stop and think. And feel.
I'm sorry, seldom. All of our pets bring warmth and a unique joy. Wish they could stay with us longer, 'specially these little ones like yours with the shorter lifespans :-( You will miss him. Don't forget no one can ever take away what his light added to your days.
(Hope Deneb sees this. She has shared this sad event with us here, with her gp's, more than once, unfortunately. She understands.)
wow, I have to go hug my [very elderly] cat right now...

Oh seldom, I am so very sorry. It is so sad when one of our very beloved pets leaves us behind. He was a little light that was extinguished to early for you wasn't he. I hope you give him a little memorial to wish him peace for a life well served.......
(((((seldom)))))) a hug for your loss.

Yeah, I hugged what I call my "domestic mob" as well.
I've been around animals all of my life. I was raised on a farm, ride horses, and spend a large chunk of time involved in animal rescue.
Some animals when they pass, it's like a thunderclap - their absence and the vacuum it creates.
When the little ones go, it's much quieter. They touch us in such a subtle and gentle way.
The loss is as acute, just not as loud.
Seldom.
