My son got a job today.
He had had a part-time job in a sports bar kitchen in Dec & early Jan; last worked 2 shifts the first week of Jan while he still had his 'voices' from the psychotic episode. I respected him for that!!! And told him so.
ANYway, his boss said he'd call him in when he needed him & didn't call, didn't call. My son left a couple of messages & finally got hold of him & he wasn't working there any more & they hired all new people!!
So last week I asked son if he wanted me to keep an eye on the paper for anyone hiring in our town. He said yes, handed in a resume to a small local restaurant earlier this week, had an interview today, they said they'd call him back & they did, to offer him the job!!
I am hoping it works out. Should suit him perfectly as it's 3 1/2 hours Wed & Thurs late afternoon to evening & 4 1/2 hours Fri, ending at 9. It's within walking distance from his place.
So by Wed, he'll hopefully have gotten rested from partying on the weekend (~sigh~) and as he starts at 4:30, he'll be okay even if he sleeps in BIGTIME.
So I'm happy & I'm trying to not be attached to it...just know that yes, for now, he has a job which will give a bit of structure to his life, give him a bit extra money & a chance to hopefully meet some new people & feel good about himself. The disability pension here is very good in that for any month that a person on dis. works, they get an extra $100. Granted, they only get to keep 1/2 of what they earn, but it's still an incentive & a chance for them to try to do some work.
Also today, I haven't been feeling as depressed. (Even before I knew he got the job).
luv to all, Kath

That's great!!! I hope he does well. As long as he's trying that's something positive. You are a really amazing mother. I have a lot of admiration for you.

Thx Phillipa. Today I was really busy & took my morning "meds" (St. John's Wort & 5HTP, selenium & folic acid). I usually take 4 sets of them a day & I was so busy that here it was about 5 pm & I had taken only the first ones and I didn't even feel like I needed any more!
I took them then & another one later anyhow, but I think I'm doing better. Thank goodness!
hugs, Kath

That's great!
And also I'm glad you're keeping it in perspective. Keeping a bit of distance will help you keep steady in the face of his ups and downs, which I'm guessing is good for both of you.

Thx Dinah,
yes distance is good.
My tendency is to have this sort of gnawing or nagging feeling in the background. It's very vague, but it has to do with not knowing what's going on with him. BOY do I wish there was still a CoDA group in town; or anywhere near! I think I'll look online for one.
I feel often like I'm 'on alert'....waiting for whatever emergency is going to happen next for my son or in his life. I REALLY don't like it.
T says it's from trauma that happened when I was abouta 5 or so & if things cause feelings similar to what I had then, my mind doesn't know the difference! So something that is NOW & in the grand scheme of things, isn't THAT bad, my mind interprets it as AWFUL or I have the feeling that potentially, something awful will happen.
:-( oh well, I keep trying!
A little bit of the good old thing called SUN would be lovely!!!
hugs Kath

Thx Tina - will do.
Yes it's a load off my mind, but my mind is so totally scr***d up that it's almost as I have a radar needle scanning to find something ELSE about his life to worry about. I hate it!!
Hope yer well & hope you have some sun out there.
luv, Kath
