spending the day with Dr. Bob

Posted by llurpsienoodle on May 5, 2008, at 10:15:38

Deneb, Jammerlich, Thuso and llurpsienoodle spent the day with Dr. Bob yesterday.

It was a little awkward at first. He didn't return my phone calls from the night before, and so I wasn't sure if he was all that interested in hanging out with us. Thinking perhaps he wanted to spend "quality time" with rowdy pdocs.

But he suggested a Tapas restaurant, and we enjoyed shrimp with garlic, BREAD (llurpsie's on a bread-kick lately), spinach, brusselssproutsalad, quail stuffed with foie gras wrapped in bacon, fried dates wrapped in bacon. and how could I forget the chorizo with aioli, or the potatoes with mayonnaise and tomato sauce (Thuso declined all food except non-mayonnaise covered potato)

Deneb is excited because she has 2 giant boxes of cookie crisp to share with tomato guy ;) Apparently Canada has yet to import this delicacy.

I was pleasantly surprised that Dr. Bob knows how to talk. He's a bit awkward, but so am I; I'd probably be more nervous if he seemed like he was totally comfortable talking to psychobabblers. En Garde!

Everywhere we went in Washington DC we kept on running into pdocs that struck up conversation with Dr. Bob. On the street, in the convention center, in the metro.

After tapas we went to the conference centre (<---- uh oh, deneb's canadianesse is rubbing off on me, eh?) and practiced our presentations. We were all nervous. I had forgotten to email Dr. Bob a copy of Jammer's powerpoint. (still kicking myself. dammit!)

Okay, I have to run now. I'm going to let this information soak in. Next installment will be the hours of 3:15 pm until closing. Betcha can't wait, huh?

Wow, Llurpsie's mean, isn't she? Lots more happened, but SHE wants to leave you hanging. We can't have that now can we?

So, after practicing, we all (including Dr. Bob) went to the Air and Space Museum. It was impressive, but Deneb, llurpsie and I were really, really tired. We did take the traditional babble Back Shot, so be looking for that sometime soon. Llurpsie also mentioned she had a bald spot (though I've never noticed one). But Bob couldn't see it, so he raised his camera over her head, trying to get a shot of it. That was pretty funny for us to see; probably not as funny for our Noodle.

Then we walked a long, long way for Ben & Jerry's. Bob had a chocolate chip cookie dough shake. See, now you know something new about him. The rest of has had some version of chocolate. And we sat and talked until security kicked us out because they were closing. Next, we headed to Union Station for dinner. From one eating place to another!!

Ok, now I'll leave you hanging!! Hopefully another kind person will come along with more info!

Feeling a little (more than a little self-conscious) because I have a feeling that Dr. Bob will be reading these posts...

Following the conference center registration, we all had heavy heavy bags to tote, full of conference programmes (<--- there goes the canadienne again), which dug uncomfortably into my shoulders. Wishing I had a nice patagonia backpack like Dr. Bob.

Dr Bob pulled out a giant camera out of his backpack. it is very nice camera with a giant lens, and he seemed very eager to take pictures, including one of my bald spot. I was appalled, but perhaps you can get a sense of his playfulness. An hour earlier he might not have dared to move his hundreds-of-dollars lens in the vicinity of llurpsiegreasyhead. haha.

We discussed the size of cruise missiles as the Air and Space Museum. Then Thuso had an idea where we could find a Ben and Jerry's. Thuso declined to eat icecream, jammer and deneb had chocolate flavors and i had a coffee coffee buzz buzz buzz shake. it was full of mocha chips that would not cooperate and pass through the straw. Dr. Bob had a cookie dough shake, and somehow his cookie dough had no problems passing through the gauntlet.

After dinner we went to dessert. Llurpsielegsandfeet were protesting. they had done enough walking for a while. No worries, it was right by the metro station. Thanks Thuso for planning everything! :)

Dr. Bob was very much intrigued and excited by tater tots. When he opened the menu he exclamed (with some boyish delight?) TATER TOTS! and so began dinner. He bought us a bottle of zinfandel, which was presented to me to sample. Before I could give the nod "It's not corked", waiter had gone on to pour deneb's glass. hmmm. amusing!

Dr. Bob had meatloaf. with gravy. Thuso's entree looked most interesting- Navajo flatbread sandwich, with sour cream. wowzers! go Thuso! Jammer and I opted for lighter fare. I was still full from the 20 oz coffeecoffeebuzzbuzzbuzz shake. Trying to disguise my jitters lest the dr. think I have akasthesia, or mania. well, no worries. I was sedate.

Then we got to talking about psychobabble administrative issues. The reader will be pleased? to know that dr. bob was genuinely curious about what our perceptions of psychobabble posting behavior were. Which policies could stand some tweaking, which features of the site might be enhanced, etc. I look forward to seeing some of these innovations. Perhaps Dr. Bob will have some time this summer to work on the site?

X <--- those are my fingers, crossed

Then after dinner, and bottle of zinfandel (red, not white. no worries!) we parted ways. Dr. bob tried to take pictures of us in the metro. Wonder if he keeps a scrapbook of us in case we need our pictures to show up on a milk carton one day? He asked us what our plans were after dinner. I didn't have the heart to tell him that Deneb and I were going to a hip nightclub to drink vodka and redbull all night long and flirt with cute sailors (oopsie! I'm married). Dr. Bob may have been up for dessert, as he seemed to have quite the appetite (slim, but still a hearty eater!). I'm not sure if he would have been up for rowdy partying. Well, Deneb and I ended up going back to the hotel. We took Jammer with us, and then we all proceeded to crash. We slept until 10am, at which point we opened up the laptops, then ordered breakfast, and then tried to figure out how to plan the planning of the plans for the day ahead.

And Dr. Bob let us kick his butt! With a photographic souvenir of the occasion. I wish we could post it, but it has faces on it. Llurpsie is the poster without a face.
