Cat lovers only: Hairballs

Posted by Emily Elizabeth on October 25, 2008, at 20:40:31

Sorry if this is a gross topic, but I was hoping someone could come up with some ideas. I have a sweet little 6-year-old longhaired cat who has suddenly started to have hairballs every day. I have been giving her anti-hairball treats every day, but that only helps a little. Any remedies? Any ideas why this is happening all of a sudden?

BTW, if you are a cat lover check out the site www.icanhazcheezburger.com it has tons of super cute kitty pix.

Best,
EE

EE if indoor cat there are indoor cat dry foods which help I think. Otherwise do you brush her daily so she won't shed that much? Other than that I'd call the Vet to be sure it isn't something else and I bet they can tell you what to give her. Love Phillipa

This stuff works well for my cats. As a cheaper alternative, plain petroleum jelly can also be used and fed in small amounts according to my vet. Might want to check with yours....

Yep, laxatone is the best.

I also feed Iam's hairball remedy year kibble round and my persian is a much happier kitty.

I picked some up today. I had a hard time convincing her that it was something she wanted to eat, but eventually she licked it up. It cracks me up that it comes in "family size." Is that just in case the owner wants to eat some too??

Thanks for the idea!!

EE

Excellent!!! Hope it helps your darlin'!

It has helped my furry, sheddy, excessively grooming kitties. My fur children took awhile to want to, uh, eat/ingest it but now they seem to like it.

Maybe she needs something to do. Does she like toys or catnip?

They did studies on wall-licking behavior in giraffes in zoos, and found it subsided when they made their food more complicated to get (like in real life).

...just a thought.

I feed my cat the Iam's Hairball formula, and he has had never had one. I swear by the stuff. ;-)
