For a PC:
For é, hold down the alt key and type e, then - no longer holding down the alt key - type e again. For a different letter with the same diacritic mark, such as á, hold down the alt key and type e, then type a. Another example, for ü, hold down the alt key and type u, then type u again. For a different letter, like ö, hold down the alt key and type u, then type o.For a mac, use the option key instead of the alt key.
Try different keys to figure out which letter makes which diacritic mark. Most are with the most common combination, é is alt + e, ü is alt + u, etc. I know theres a list somewhere on the internet, I'm just too tired to research it right now.
I hope this helps!

I have learnt furthermore that you can just switch in Windows system control the language of a keyboard. Not a perfect solution because the letters on the keyboard do not correspond anymore with what you're typing. But still useful since I know all letters by heart.
