Has anyone seen it? It was on TV a couple of nights ago. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
--------------------------------------------------
'Tight-lipped Englishman Alex Hughes, an ex-convict, is on a road trip to Winnipeg to see an old friend. Along the way, he meets the annoying, but vivacious, Vivienne Freeman who manages to bum a ride with him. Just as he begins to warm to this eccentric girl, Alex's vehicle is in a serious automobile accident that kills Vivienne. After his meeting with the police, Alex decides to speak with Vivienne's mother. Upon arrival at her home, Alex discovers that the mother, Linda, is a highly functional autistic woman who convinces him to stay long to take out the garbage the day after the funeral he agrees to arrange. In those few days, Alex discovers new friends and learns more about the uniqueness of Linda even as he struggles to come to terms with his own grief.'

I haven't heard of that one, but it sounds good (but sad).

Yeah, it's a sad story. Some of my family are autistic so it touched a raw nerve. I don't think it was ever released at the box office - it's probably too downcast for a mainstream audience, but a great movie all the same. I thought it was better than Rain Man. I suppose it might appeal more to people who have been touched by autism. It's not often you see an autistic character take a lead role, so for me it's a very special movie.

I'm familiar with autism.
It's a great subject, and always interesting to me.
I'll see if I can get hold of the movie.

Well I won't spoil it for you by posting any more of my favorite clips. I think you might find it interesting.
I'm looking to get the DVD for myself. Do you know any good sources?
I think it might take a specialist supplier, although I haven't even checked Amazon yet.

Hi Quintal,
It looks like a great movie. Do you mind me asking - are you left feeling sad at the end of the movie?
I have to be careful what I watch lately, it seems.

Hi Kath,
I didn't feel sad at the end, but I don't know that anyone else would feel the same way. It's a laughter through tears kind of film. I suppose it depends on which way your mood is when you watch it. I think it ends on a happy note.

Thanks - if it's a laughter through tears kind of film it'd probably be just fine!
thx Kath :-)
