I joined the YMCA

Posted by Deneb on January 27, 2009, at 22:47:30

It's time to butch up! LOL :-)

I'm looking forward to it. I'm going to try to go everyday. I want to be strong.

I can't wait to squat my bodyweight. Ooooh, I wanna be able to beat the boys. LOL

I am starting small, but my goals are not sissy weights. I'm going for the heavy stuff.

Of course I'll alternate between cardio and weight lifting to give my muscles time to heal and build.

I have to eat healthier too to lose body fat.

Usually the Y sets up a personal program for each member assessing their abilities and teaches you which would be beneficial for individual people. Phillipa ps I worked for Y's for many years as Aerobics instructor in early 30's.

Deneb, you might want to check out stumptuous.com. It's a great site about women and weightlifting. Or there's a good book called "New Rules of Lifting For Women"

Thanks for the tips. I already knew about the website. It was that website that actually motivated me to join the YMCA and do weight lifting.

I haven't gone yet thought because I am sick right now. Ugh. LOL

I can't wait to squat my bodyweight!

After I read that site I got all excited about getting a power cage. Then I discovered how hard it is doing full-depth squats with no added weight at all. Now I'm up to 16 pounds (two eight-pound dumbbells) so I think it will be a long time before I need to worry about a cage :)

The first day I tried the full depth squats with no weights I could only do about 5 before I couldn't get up. Now I can do more. I am using 2 five pound barbells right now, so 10 pounds. It will be a while before I use a powercage too. LOL.

I am looking forward to getting strong.
