Crazy wild fires here in Texas!!! I came out of work yesterday and like to have freaked out. I could have sworn the buildings down the street were on fire, the smoke was so strong and the haze so thick. Turns out it was 70+ miles away. I couldn't believe the smoke traveled that far, but apparently it was because of the severity of the fires and the high winds. Many homes and businesses got burned, so my thoughts go to them. Just felt the need to share...

I don't live in Manhattan, but after 9/11 there was a strange smell in the air here for a while

I hardly ever listen to or read the news so I had no idea...
I'm so sorry. Fire is an awful thing. Nature can be so powerful.
In 1980 I lived in Creston, B.C. - near the British Columbia, Idaho, Alberta border. When Mount St. Helens (volcano-mountain) erupted in Washington State, there was LOTS of volcanic ash in Creston. I easily scooped up a jar which I still have.
My thoughts are with you.

Thanks everyone! The smoke was gone by the next day, but it sure was freakish while it lasted. Freaked me out anyway.
