Tyra Banks butchering hair *trigger*

Posted by Deneb on October 11, 2009, at 15:45:12

This is just awful! Shame on Tyra! There was like a mob mentality. That poor girl!

Someone with really long hair on the hair forum I go to was actually contacted by the show to do this. She loves her long hair.

I think the girl on the show is going to be traumatized!

Deneb, you don't know how the woman's hair came out. I have no idea if Tyra knows what she's doing, but I tend to doubt she would have aired the segment if the woman was really upset.

Just a thought.

Here is the the styling part of the segment. The young woman looks like she forcing herself to smile. She does not look like she is enjoying the experience. She also mentioned being traumatized as a child by her one and only haircut.

I don't think one can get a nice haircut in a few minutes. It looked like she was chopping her hair with reckless abandon. For goodness sake, they were even chanting, "chop it off, chop it off" like something from the Lord of the Rings.

Tyra is just looking for ratings. She contacted a bunch of people from the long hair forum I belong too, she wanted to chop off hair from people with knee length hair. These people declined the offer. Tyra's show went looking for these people and pressured them to cut their hair. These people did not go looking for a makeover.

I guess it's a matter of opinion. It doesn't look so bad to me, but I don't think it's possible to tell what it would look like when it's finished. Nor does the woman have a clue to how it looks, at least as far as the video shows. So she can't really have an opinion. Actually, while I don't know the final result, it looks to me as though Tyra knows what she's doing.

Of course, I could be wrong. No one including all the people who wrote comments could begin to guess.

But whether people were looking for makeovers or whatever their reason for being on the show, I do think everyone is aware that they're getting their hair cut on stage, by Tyra. Maybe they were pressured--I could believe it, but again you don't know-- Still, basically they decided to go on.

Plus I think whatever the hoopla and silliness around the haircut, Tyra went on stage having planned what she was going to do. She wasn't listening to the audience-- because she's not that dumb.

I dont' understand why this upsets you so much, Deneb.

Oh, it doesn't really upset me that much. I just feel bad for the young woman who got her hair cut. She hadn't gotten her hair cut in 12 years, since she was 5. I would imagine she would get attached to her hair. Plus she said she was traumatized by her haircut when she was 5. She had asked for a short bob, but she ended up not liking it.

She did agree to go on the show though and I'm sure she was aware of what would be happening, but I think she regrets it. I dunno, maybe I am projecting.

She had decided to donate her hair... she was ready for it. I dont feel bad for her. Her mom was there rooting her on, anyone who makes the decision to go on live TV and have their hair cut had to have made a firm decision. My guess is that she decided to donate her hair before Tyra got to her. I like her hair shorter better.. Im sure she will grow to like, if she didn't right away.

I dont know about how Tyra cut her hair, she looked a bit sloppy but the final result wasn't bad.

I think she looked a lot better before her makeover.

Do some research on Locks of Love, they are not what they seem. Check out what the BBB says about them. They sell most of the hair because most hair is unusable. They don't turn people's hair into wigs for children with cancer.
